New set images seemingly reveal one of Zac Efron’s characters fromFamous. Theupcoming A24 movie, which is being directed by Jody Hill (Observe and Report), is based on the novel of the same name by Blake Crouch (Wayward Pines). It will star Efron in a dual role as Lance Dunkquist, a man who looks identical to movie star James Jansen and decides to move to Los Angeles to use this to his advantage as he pursues his dreams of stardom.Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor has also joined the cast.

A new set image that is viewable viaPeoplereveals Zac Efron shooting a project in Los Angeles in which he wears a grey hoodie and a hairstyle with swooping bangs. While it has not been officially confirmed that the project isFamous, the movie is reportedly in production, reteaming the star with A24 after his role inThe Iron Claw. Given that update, it seems highly likely that he is in costume as either Lance Dunkquist or James Jansen.

What This Means For Famous

Efron’s New Role Is A Major Callback

Even if the set photo is from a different project altogether, whatever role Efron is playing is calling back to the hairstyle he wore when he was first getting famous off the back of theHigh School Musicalmovies. The classic swooping bangs seen in the image arevery similar to the hairstyle he wore through the end of the 2000sin projects that also included17 AgainandSummerland.

Efron had shed the bangs by the beginning of the 2010s, when he starred in movies includingCharlie St. Cloud,The Paperboy, andThe Lucky One.

If this image is indeed from the set ofFamous, it remains unclear which character from the newZac Efron moviethis could be. It could very well be Jansen, with the bangspotentially meant to underscore the character’s fame by paying homage to the beginning of Efron’s career. However, the hairstyle could also be the one used by Dunkquist, perhaps showing how his perception of fame is slightly skewed and out of fashion.

Our Take On The Zac Efron Set Image

The Photo Could Reveal Something Deeper About The Movie

An entirely different element of the set photo could better explain the provenance of the haircut.Efron is seen standing in front of what appears to be an electronics storein the image. The design of the logo and the fact that many electronics stores are out of business could indicate thatFamoustakes place in the 2000s, if that is indeed the movie the star is currently shooting. That would explain the haircut, though it does not yet offer any conclusive evidence as to which character may be sporting it.
