New Report ClaimsThe MadisonIs Distinct From TheYellowstoneSequel Show

AfterTVLinebroke the story aboutThe Madison, a new report fromPuck’s Matt Belloni claims that the spinoff was inaccurately conflated with the previously announcedYellowstonesequel show. Michelle Pfeiffer was once considered for the female lead in the latter series, which Belloni identifies as the likely source of confusion. He also claims that, whileThe Madisonis likely to be part of theYellowstoneuniverse, that is not yet guaranteed.

His report confirms thatYellowstonestars Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes will return for the sequel show, but Matthew McConaughey, who was originally reported to be in talks for the lead role, is now unlikely to be involved.

The Madison Could Keep Yellowstone Alive

A Contemporary Spinoff Is Exactly What The Franchise Needs

ThoughYellowstonehas found success inspinoffs like1883and1923, the inherent appeal of the flagship show is its modern setting mixed with its cowboy attitude. Continuing that in the modern day will be key to the future success of the franchise, which has been mired in drama due to Kevin Costner’s exit from the flagship series. Despite Costner’s exit, though, there are reports thatcertainYellowstonecast members will return in a future spinoff, though it’s unclear if that will be inThe Madisonor another series.

Now, it sounds like the Clyburn clan will embody the fish-out-of-water dynamic that the series cites so often.

What is clear is thatThe Madisonwill add a new dynamic to the show’s formula.Yellowstonehas poked fun at city slickers attempting to wrangle the cowboy ethos, but the show has always been about the Duttons protecting their land from those very people, among others. Now, it sounds like the Clyburn clan will embody the fish-out-of-water dynamic that the series cites so often. How they might be connected to the Duttons remains unclear, but it will be interesting to see howThe Madisonwill bridge the gap between itself andYellowstone.
