Summary

InBlue Beetle #8by Josh Trujillo and Adrián Gutiérrez, Jaime Reyes and Xiomara discover that their friend Roma, akathe Green Beetle Nitida, has given up her scarab to Victoria Kord. Jaime is later invited to a scientific presentation given by Victoria Kord, who’s set to make a big announcement.
Unbeknownst to Blue Beetle, Victoria has used Nitida’s scarab to create Pinnacle, a self-repairing defensive automaton. Just as Victoria debuts her creation to the scientific community, Victoria is attacked by a supervillain, soshe activates Pinnacle, who grabs the villain and uses its weapon systems to slice off their arm.
Blue Beetle’s Ally Developed a Terrifyingly Lethal Robot
Though Blue Beetle and his scarab Khaji-Da were on their own for years as a solo act, they recently developed a team with new scarab users Xiomara and Roma. Together, Jaime and his new allies in Palmera City fought to defend the Horizon, a peaceful offshoot of the villainous Reach. However, after an intense battle with the Blood Scarab, Roma sought out Victoria Kord’s assistance. Roma longed for her life back in Blüdhaven, back before she joined with her scarab.Kord, looking to harvest alien technology for her own purposes, eagerly agreed.
Pinnacle is partially made up of Nitida’s scarab, along with several other pieces of alien tech Victoria managed to incorporate. The end result was a monster that nearly wiped Palmera City off of the map, thanks to its inability to be destroyed. Like the Sentinels, Pinnacle was created to safeguard humanity from threats and just like the automatons from the Marvel Universe, Pinnacle causes more problems than it solves. Worse yet, despite everything that Blue Beetle and his allies threw at it, Pinnacle is still around,meaning it could return to endanger the DC Universe at any moment.
The True Danger of Blue Beetle’s ‘Sentinel’
Scarabs are one of the greatest weapons in the DC Universe and Nitida’s beetle made Pinnacle more powerful than even Victoria realized. Sure, Blue Beetle and his comrades beat it, but they can’t destroy it. While Jaime made the call to try and reform Pinnacle, it’s going to be hard to undo the damage Victoria did. If the efforts to retrain Pinnacle fail, it won’t be long before it tries to lead another assault on anything it deems a threat to the world. Pinnacle may not be as bad as theX-Men’sSentinels, but it’s a danger all the same.
