Summary

Warning: contains spoilers for X-Force #1The Marvel Universe has countless mega-powerful mutants within it… but only a select few reach the degree of Omega-level. Until recently, the mutant innovator, Forge, has been a powerful but “normal” strength mutant. At least, untilX-Force#1, which sees the brilliant Forge crafting a new machine thatallows him to reach Omega-level power at the push of a button, technology that could change the face of mutantkind’s future forever.

Forge isthe new leader of X-Force, a team of iconicmutants dedicated to preventing the destruction of all reality, and this powerful new mutant squad could only save the world with the help of Forge’s Omega-level machine.

X-Force#1, from writer Geoffrey Thorne with art by Marcus To and Erick Arciniega, reveals Forge’s new “McCoy Project” -named after Beast- which allows the mutant to “facilitate [his] mutagenic shift toward Omega,“temporarily giving Forge Omega-level capabilities that let him build the “analog,” which detects upcoming “fractures” in reality.

X-Men’s Wild New “Analog” Gadget Redefines How the Franchise Chooses Its Villains

The X-Men’s new tool can predict the future, allowing them to target enemies before they’re attacked. But can this power really be trusted?

Forge Has Invented A Machine To Increase His Abilities To Omega-Level

This could change the future of the entire mutant race

Forge describes his own mutant power inX-Force#1 as the ability to, “…see mechanical solutions to physical problems and build them.” Many have considered Forge close to Omega-level in the past, although he was classified as a “low level threat” by Nimrod, but there have always been limits to his mechanical imagination. The new McCoy Project, developed by Forge and his robot worker Maahe, uses ambient radiation to increase a mutant’s internal power capacity, which in turn allows Forge to essentially see into the future, alerting him to a number of existential threats to the world.

The fact that Forge was able to create a machine that boosts a mutant’s powers to Omega-level is truly ground-breaking and dangerous technology if it falls into the wrong hands.

It appears that the McCoy Project also allowed Forge to see the mechanical solution to these threats, the “analog” machine. This analog notifies X-Force of where and when the newest “crisis point” will occur, allowing the team to investigate and save the world. The fact that Forge was able to create a machine that temporarily - at least for now - boosts a mutant’s powers to Omega-level is truly ground-breaking, and dangerous technology if it falls into the wrong hands. There is a limited list of Omega-level mutants, like Magneto, Jean Grey, and Storm, andallowing anyone with an X-Gene to become Omega-level is a recipe for disaster…

X-Men Officially Settles Major Fan Debate About What ‘Omega Level’ Actually Means

Senior X-Men editor Jordan D. White lays out some clear rules for the ‘Omega Level’ label and how it applies to Marvel’s most powerful mutants.

“McCoy tried to run away from his mutation and stumbled into a power-up.”

An interesting detail ofForge’s new Omega-level machine is that it was inspired by the science Hank McCoy, the Beast, had developed early in his heroic career. It is widely known that Hank was unhappy with abnormally-sized feet, a result of his mutation, and in his attempt to “cure” himself of his differences, he actually discovered a “power-up,” which evolved his mutation even further. Forge was able to take Beast’s initial research and transform it into technology that greatly evolved an X-Gene’s potential, meaning Hank’s “failure” was Forge’s success.

Marvel’s newX-Forceteam is fighting for the future of all mutantkind by attempting to stop crisis points before they devolve into full fractures in Earth-616’s reality, and none of this could happen without the “analog.” Hopefully, Forge is able to keep his Omega-level machine private - unlike his “mutant cure” gun - so that the powerful technology does not fall into evil hands.
