Unfortunately forWonder WomanandTomb Raiderfans, a crossover that would have united the two franchises just wasn’t in the cards. As cool as it would have been to see the Amazing Amazon working alongside the smash-hit video game character, one writer has confirmed why a crossover never worked out.
OnBluesky, writer Gail Simone respondedto a user who was commenting on another of Simon’s posts about how a Xena/Wonder Woman crossover comic was written and drawn but never printed. The user mentioned that they’re still holding out hope of one day seeing the Laura Croftand Wonder Woman team-upthat Simone would have done with artist Stjepan Sejic.

Simone responded to the user with some surprising news, saying that the idea was not only pitched, but that the “Laura Croft people were all in”. Sadly it never got off the ground because, “DC was reluctant” according to Simone.
Gail Simone and Stjepan Sejic’s Wonder Woman andTomb RaiderCrossover Was Close to Reality
The Project Never Got the Approval to Become a Reality
Indeed, Simone and Sejic envisioned a crossover between Wonder Woman and Laura Croft. Sejic has posted quite a bit of concept art showcasing the potential meeting between the Amazon and the kick-ass archeologist on hisTumblraccount. The pieces show Diana coming to Laura personally, asking for assistance on a mission. The two are shown heading into an ancient structure, fighting alongside one another, and even trying to survive a dinosaur together.Sejic even had concept art of Wonder Woman and Laura kissing, noting that he discussed with Gail Simone whether the two would do that in the actual story.
It seems odd that DC Comics wouldn’t want to do a crossover between these two properties. It’s not like the publisher is against crossover stories (Heck,Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2is coming up in a few months). Plus, DC Comics has had a lot stranger crossovers than Wonder Woman and Tomb Raider, lest anyone forget that the publisher actually worked with KFC for three separate comics. It’s a real shame because Simon and Sejic seemed to have a lot of passion for this project, andit’s something both Wonder Woman andTomb Raiderfans would really enjoy.

Fans Are Going to Have to Keep Waiting for Wonder Woman and Laura Croft to Meet
Sadly, Not Every Crossover Was Meant to Be
It’s tough to hear about an interesting idea like Wonder Woman and Laura Croft working together, and it not be a reality. But crossovers aren’t the easiest thing to bring to life, even if the two properties involved seem like they’d be a natural fit. While fans may never know the exact reasoning why the crossover didn’t work out, it’s at least cool to see what Simone and Sejic were thinking with their idea. Who knows? Maybe the idea will be revisited down the line and fans will actually get to see theWonder WomanandTomb Raiderfranchises unite.
