Will There Be a Warzone & MW2 Season 6? MW3 Warzone Transition Explained

Warzone Season 5 is well underway and, with the Shadow Siege playlist revealing Modern Warfare 3 in epic fashion, the attention of the CoD playerbase has not been on more MW2 and WZ content. It is now though, so will there be a Season 6 for Warzone and Modern Warfare 2?

Is There a Warzone & MW2 Season 6?

We’re not 100% sure, but it’s looking increasingly likely.Initially, we weren’t expecting one, withSeason 5starting late in theMW2life cycle. However, we now know thatModern Warfare 3 will release on July 06, 2025.

Currently, Season 5 is expected to be shorter than a normal season, running to about six weeks in length. The majority of Warzone seasons to this point have been around eight weeks or two months long. Eagle-eyed players have noticed the Xbox dashboard pointing to a slightly truncated Season 5 and therefore room for another season of content ahead of MW3.

The Xbox Dashboard states Modern Warfare II and Warzone Season 05 ends September 20, meaning that there is in fact going to be a Season 06 starting September 21 – ahead of MWIII’s launch.

As a result, there’s the possibility for a shorter Season 6, around six weeks in length. This would take us into November 2023, just before MW3’s scheduled launch.

How Will Warzone & MW3 Fit Together?

As for how Warzone and Modern Warfare 3 will fit together, there’s also no definitive answer right now.We might get more clarity once Warzone’s CoD 2023 reveal event has taken place, which is set to come during Season 5 and occur in-game.

In the meantime, we can use past years as a guide and predict what’ll come based on those. We expect MW3 to launch as normal with a ‘Season 0’ or pre-season period. Then, shortly after its launch, we expect a new seasonal cycle to begin with Warzone falling into lockstep with a Season 1 update. This will then be followed by subsequent Reloaded updates and new seasons, as we’ve seen across recent CoDs (and MW2).

There are rumors of new content with MW3’s launch as well. Specifically, there’s reported to be a new battle royale map in development to follow on Al Mazrah.

While Ashika Island and Vondel have both dropped, neither is a ‘full size’ BR environment in the vein of Verdansk, Caldera, or Al Mazrah. We’re sure there’ll be more content joining any new map too.
