Andy can be a confusing character at first glance, especially to those not as familiar with theAlienfranchise. The backstories of theAlien: Romuluscharacters are only briefly examined in the film. Even the main leads barely have the surfaces of their origins explored, though, in fairness, it isn’t entirely necessary to know too much about them to sympathize with their struggles. As for Rain and Andy,it’s implied early in the movie that Rain’s dad was the one who initially found Andy in the trash and repaired himto the best of his ability to make him a helper for his daughter.
Rain has no biological connection with him, but still considers Andy her brother.

However, Andy still isn’t in the best shape, sorather than being the surrogate father Rain’s dad intended, Andy instead fulfills the role of a younger brother who Rain must take care of. Her father even programmed the dad jokes to simulate some of his own presence in Andy, but Rain is slightly weary of them at the beginning of the film because, as much as she loves him, he’s still her responsibility. So, Rain has no biological connection with him, but still considers Andy her brother.
