Because of these issues, the company’s owner, Monty Miller, brought in hotshot big city lawyer Rebecca Falcone to flush out any issues.

Rebecca Falcone has been a huge help to Monty in dealing with these potential issues, but she’s quickly developed an antagonistic relationship with Tommy.Rebecca showed up in town with pre-determined judgements about Tommy, the oil industry, and the local way of life, setting them off on a bad foot. Things progressed even further in episode 8, whenRebecca made threats toward Cooper, Tommy’s son, after Cooper helped Ariana negotiate a better settlement deal, damaging Rebecca’s ego.
Monty’s Decision About Rebecca Makes Sense, Despite Her Lack Of Experience
Rebecca Can Be A Powerful Asset For Whomever She Works For
InLandmanepisode 9’s ending, Tommy hears the news that his long-term friend and boss, Monty, has passed away. Some of his final decisions included giving Tommy a promotion to essentially manage the company, helping his wife Cami in his absence, and also promoting Rebecca to a VP role. Tommy and the company’s lawyer, Nate, are immediately concerned about this decision, as not only does she despise them, butshe also has no experience working in the oil industry. These concerns are valid, but the choice also makes sense.
Rebecca has proven to be an outstanding negotiator, and though she’s shown to be cruel and petty at times, she’s undoubtedly someone the company will want on its side.It makes sense that Monty would have been impressed with her skills, as she pulled off some major victories for him in her brief time working with him. She may not have succeeded in negotiating a $500,000 settlement with the widows, but it seemed like she was trying to lowball them in the first place, so not a terrible loss for the company.

Their Strained Relationship Won’t Bode Well For The Future
The biggest issue at stake isn’t for the company; it’s for Tommy and Nate specifically. She’s going to see them as an immediate threat to her new position and vice-versa, and she’s not going to pull any punches.Any attempts to get along are going to be impossible as long as she’s still gunning for Cooper, so Tommy may just have an enemy within his own company to deal with. This should be an issue throughLandmanseason 2, with the more immediate problem being the Cartel.
