The series creator ofHouseexplains why a reunion episode for House and Wilson is unlikely to happen. In the finale of the popular medical drama,Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie)successfully fakes his death. A farewell scene shows House and his friend, Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) riding off together in motorcycles, with Wilson having only months to live due to his terminal cancer diagnosis.
Speaking withEntertainment Weeklyfor the 20th anniversary of theHousepremiere, series creator David Shore was asked if he’d be open to a reunion special that focused on Wilson and House on the road. Shore doesn’t rule it out outright, though he explains why a reunion project would be hard to pull off and whyhe feels reluctant to tamper with the legacy of the series. Read the full remarks below:

Not really. I wouldn’t say no to it, but those things are very, very difficult to do. You don’t want to spoil anything. As Hugh said at the time, Dr. House is the type of guy who leaves the party early rather than late. People are going, “Where’d House go?” Rather than, “Why is House still here?” You don’t want to spoil your legacy. But at the same time, yeah, we had fun with it, and I could see it being fun. But you’d have to have the right story, a great story that we were really happy with, and schedules would have to align, which is in a weird way the much more difficult task.
What Shore’s Comments Mean For A House Revival
It’s Unlikely To Ever Happen
As part of looking back onHouse, Shore also touched on fan theories about theHouseseries ending, specifically whether it was ahallucination by Wilsonand that House actually died rather than fake his own death. The series creator explained that this was not his intent, rather that House and Wilson would be wise to enjoy the time they have together. Given WIlson’s terminal diagnosis, it would also change the ending of the series.
20 Best House Episodes, Ranked
The House M.D. series wrapped over a decade ago, but the show is still one of the best medical dramas around, these are the best episodes.
Riding off together is a simple but effective sentiment to close on the otherwise divisive finale. There would have to be a worthwhile idea, beyond the usual reboot idea of pairing up newer actors with returning cast members, and it sounds like Shore isn’t convinced that there is one. It goes to a fundamental question about the kind of seriesHouseis.

Our Take On Shore’s Reunion Comments
He’s Right To Not Want To Change The Legacy Of House
As much as viewers might have enjoyed watching theHousecast, it is rightly not thought of as a warm series where it would make a lot of sense to catch up with the characters. Especially given the quietly definitive finale,it is best to leave it and enjoy it for what it wasrather than try to revive the premise for a one-off. Having to undo where the show leaves House and Wilson, along with scheduling, will likely never happen.
House
Cast
House is a medical mystery drama in which the villain is typically a difficult-to-diagnose medical malady. It follows Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), a world-renowned disabled diagnostician with a notorious substance abuse issue. With his team of world-class doctors, House has built a reputation as one of the most brilliant doctors in the world - an especially impressive feat when taking into account that he rarely actually sees his patients.
