Team Sonic realizes that they will need more than brute force to take down the threat, and if anyone is an expert at fighting alien hedgehogs, it’s Robotnik.

In the second film, Knuckles was the antagonist throughout, only for him to unite with Sonic and Tails to fight Robotnik at the end of the movie. Since Shadow is an antihero, something similar could happen, with the events of the film leading to him fighting against Robotnik alongside Team Sonic.
