How The Sea Folk Connect To Rand’s Destiny As The Dragon Reborn

The Wheel of Timeseason 3, episode 5 properly introduces us to the Sea Folk- traders who travel the seas, and who clearly have a formidable power all of their own. Also known as the Atha’an Miere, the Sea Folk live on ships and in some remote island chains; they’re headed by a Mistress of the Ships, who essentially serves as their queen. We’ve already seen that the Sea Folk can channel theOne Power, but their prophecies are yet to be revealed.

Robert Jordan’s original novels reveal thatthe Sea Folk have their own version of the Dragon Reborn, who they call the Coramoor. Their ancient Jendai Prophecy foretells the Coramoor’s coming, and the dawn of a new age in which the Sea Folk will be blessed. Ominously, it also contains dire warnings that the White Tower shall be broken in the Coramoor’s name, and that the Stone of Tear will fall. It also foretells the coming of the Seanchan.

When Will Rand Meet The Sea Folk?

The Wheel of Timehas changed the booksin some quite fascinating ways, so it’s hard to say whether things will play out exactly the way Robert Jordan wrote. That said, they do cross paths with Rand over the course of “The Shadow Rising,” one of the books that has inspiredThe Wheel of Timeseason 3. So it’s safe to assume they’re going to meet soon - although they are likely to take quite a while to form a formal alliance.
