Josiah Carter only appeared on one season of Bravo’sBelow Deck, but he made enough of an impression with his dry English wit that fans are curious what he’s been up to since working as a second stew on superyacht My Seanna. Josiah was onBelow Deckseason 6in 2018 and worked under veteranChief Stew Kate Chastainunder Captain Lee Rosbach.Audiences loved his dynamic with Kate, particularly when squared up against third Stew Caroline Bedol.
Josiah’s time on the show allowed him to show off his certified butler skills on the high seas. He went on to appear on a few episodes ofBelow Deck Galley Talkafter his season, but other than that, he has remained off reality television. Post-show,Josiah dabbled in clothing, but today, he has a new career path. He’s also spoken out about his time on TV, including why he didn’t return to the series and where he stands with Kate today, in various interviews throughout the years.

Josiah’s Journey On Below Deck
Josiah Was A Popular Cast Member
Josiah was a first-timer onBelow Deckduring his season. While the show is known for bringing back popular cast members each season, Josiah was a fresh face who knew his stuff and proved his worth to his boss, Kate. The Stews are responsible for the boat’s interior, including cleaning and serving food to the guests.Josiah brought impeccable serviceto his role due to his background as a certified butler.
20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
Work is only part of the job when appearing onBelow Deck. The crew works hard, but they play harder. He wasn’t immune to drama, as he and Kate were accused of bullying Caroline until she quit mid-season. Seasoned viewers know that working on a superyacht isn’t for the weak, and Caroline seemed to fall into that category. Her lack of a work ethic was tough for Kate and Josiah, and while they sometimes acted inappropriately regarding Caroline, I wouldn’t say they “bullied” her. Caroline wasn’t pulling her weight, and that made Kate and Josiah’s job harder.

The three just weren’t a good fit together. Caroline seemed to struggle with outside issues, often shown crying on the show and seemingly not contributing as much. She didn’t seem to enjoy her time on camera, battled with castmates, and sustained a foot injury. Caroline was probably intimidated by Kate and Josiah’s tight bond as well. After she quit, Josiah and Kate couldn’t hide their excitement, blasting music as she departed the ship.

Josiahlater confirmed this with a post on Instagram, writing on June 03, 2025, “Well on this day last year, I was feeling very sorry for the myself. I’d just boarded a train in London to head back home. An hour earlier while at the airport about to board a flight to Antigua to join @captain_lee_rosbach and his crew but was told I couldn’t fly because of Covid. I Can’t believe it’s been a whole year, feels like yesterday. Hopefully I can get back out to the yachts this summer.” Josiah shared a photo of himself in a mask to accompany his post.

Below Deck Down Under: I Think Jason Chambers Is A Better Captain Than Glenn Shephard (He Would’ve Fired Gary If He Had The Chance)
Below Deck Down Under’s been a breath of fresh air after Below Deck Sailing Yacht, & I think Jason Chambers is unilaterally better than Captain Glenn.
Today, Josiah is in a new line of work that allows him to keep his feet dry: In June 2024,Josiahannounced he and Michael were diving into real estate withCarter Groves Estate Agents, a brokerage firm in the U.K. that’s described as, “a Boutique estate agency for those who expect personal service delivered only by an experienced owner/ principal of the business throughout their transaction.”

“What better way to go from working on luxury yachts to selling luxury houses (well not all but lots of them are). This is a new stage of my life and would love for you all to be there with me and join me on the journey. It’s not quite selling sunset but we’re not far off. Excited for the future of our new business.”
Are Josiah And Kate Chastain Still Friends?
Kate And Josiah Bonded On Below Deck
Kate and Josiah became instant friendsworking in the interior onBelow Deck. Kate is a tough boss, and their friendship blossomed due to their strong work ethics and desire for perfection. It was fun for audiences to see Kate and Josiah’s relationship flourish, since Kate doesn’t take to people like that on the show. The duo even got tattoos together following filming, according toShowbiz Cheat Sheet.
After working together again onGalley Talk, where does Kate and Josiah’s friendship stand today? They both still follow each other on Instagram, but it seems they hit a rough patch after filming. Josiah toldShowbiz Cheat Sheetin 2019 that Kate “ghosted” him after filming, saying:
“She doesn’t speak to me anymore. I have no idea why. When we filmed the reunion, we were fine.”
Happily, it seems they’ve patched things up, as Kate toldUS Weeklyin 2021 she’d sent him well-wishes after he got a new dog. “He’s [in] a different time zone in Mallorca or Manchester, but they did just get a dog—him and his lovely partner Michael—so I kind of sent him a little message from my dog saying, ‘Can’t wait to meet you!'”
Would Josiah Ever Return To Below Deck?
Fans Would Love To See Josiah Back
Having Josiah back onBelow Deckwould be a fun surprise for fans since people still talk about him from season 6. While he was supposed to return in season 8, he didn’t get the chance due to the pandemic. It’s likely Josiah not returning to TV is more of an issue of timinginstead of Josiah not wanting to return. He seemed sad he didn’t get to go back for season 8.
Josiah is still friendly with many from hisBelow Deckdays, as he follows fellow yachties like Christine “Bugsy” Drake, Julia d’Albert, Raquel “Rocky” Dakota, Fraser Olender, Isabella “Izzy” Wouters, Hannah Ferrier, Ben Robinson, and more. He’s part of the Below Deck family, so while a return is never completely off the table, it doesn’t seem like it will happen any time soon.
Josiah’s life has moved in a new direction since appearing onBelow Deck. Now, he’s married and pursuing his real estate business with his husband, so it seems less likely he’d ever return to yachting. Still, Josiah will go down as one of the most memorable inBelow Deckhistory. Fans of the beloved show can rest easy becauseBelow Deckseason 12will reportedly return in 2025.
