Warning! Spoilers ahead forFBI: Internationalseason 4, episode 2.FBI: International’s Wes Mitchell (Jesse Lee Soffer) made an egregious error that demonstrated a big lie about replacing Scott Forrester (Luke Kleintank) on the Fly Team. Forrester had been the head of the team for three years, but he disappeared near the end of season 3 when Kleintank chose to leave the series. Forrester’s disappearance was not theFBIfranchise exit he deserved, as he didn’t get an on-screen goodbye and the team seems to have moved on easily despite their closeness with him.

Forrester’s absence meant a new leader had to join theFBI: Internationalseason 4 cast. Thus, the series introduced Mitchell, the new, more unpredictable leader, in season 4, episode 1. Although Mitchell was supposedly only in Budapest temporarily, he listened to Vo about requesting the command position after the case he was working on was resolved.FBI: Internationalmade it appear that Mitchell’s getting the job was as easy as him asking for it, butMitchell’s behavior suggests that replacing Forrester won’t be as simple as it seems.

FBI: International Season 4, Episode 2 Reveals Wes' Flaws As Fly Team’s New Leader

His Impulsivity Almost Cost The Team Their Mission

FBI: International’s Wes Mitchellhad already demonstrated an impulsive streak during his first episode that could be problematic, but it was made even clearer duringseason 4, episode 2 that this was a critical flaw. While protecting a 14-year-old girl who had been targeted by international assassins, Wes broke into a house with her so that he could tend to his wounds. This ill-thought-out decision led to the homeowner calling the police, which tipped the assassins offto where the girl was hidden.

Why Luke Kleintank’s Scott Forrester Left FBI: International After Season 3

FBI: International had to explain Scott Forrester leaving the Fly Team and why the team was getting a new leader in FBI: International season 4.

While the rest of the Fly Team was able to stop the assassins from getting to their target, this problem could have been prevented if Wes had thought things through more. Additionally, he doesn’t understand the protocols the Fly Team follows or the reasons behind their rules. His behavior is similar to that of former team member Damian Powell, whom Scott spoke to harshly about his impulsivityand how he would need to tame it if he wanted to remain on the team. However, now it’s the team leader who is exhibiting these problematic behaviors.

Wes Easily Replacing Scott Forrester As Fly Team’s Leader In FBI: International Season 4 Is A Lie

It’s Unrealistic That He Got The Job The Moment He Asked For It

The way Wes got the leadership position is unrealistic. The Fly Team had already gotten a new leader after Forrester’s disappearance, but that person was also MIA, with a ridiculous excuseabout him being more interested in wine tours in Paris than the job. Thus, after Wes came to Budapest and worked on one case, Vo told him that if he wanted the job, he should call and ask for it.

It seems as if the version of the FBI depicted inFBI: Internationaldoesn’t vet prospective leaders.

This entire sequence of events makes it appear that replacing Forrester was a simple matter of making a few phone calls. Additionally, it seems as if the version of the FBI depicted inFBI: Internationaldoesn’t vet prospective leaders. People who don’t have the proper work ethic or temperament to lead the team effectively should have been weeded out, and the FBI higher-ups should have chosen someone out of a pool of candidates that made sense as the new leader rather than Wes happening to come to Budapest and being granted the job as soon as he requested it.

While it’s unclear how much time has passed, it is also strange that the team immediately accepted Wes as their new leader. Under Scott, the Fly Team was a close-knit family. Several other agents left the team, but Scott was a constant presence whom everyone trusted so much that they didn’t believe the stories about him leaving to help his fugitive mother. It’s an insult to that relationship that the team immediately embraces Wes as if their relationship with Scott was strictly professional and all they care about is that their leader will be present more often than absent.

Wes' Growing Pains Will Further Highlight How Great Of A Leader Scott Was

Wes Will Have To Learn Skills That Came Naturally To Scott

FBI: International’s plan is likely for Wes to grow into his job throughout the season. Vo started him on that path in the premiere when she told him he couldn’t strongarm the Hungarian National Police and that he’d have to learn to trust the Fly Team because he didn’t know how things worked. He will, therefore, continue to learn on the job, hopefully without unnecessarily risking lives because of his mistakes.

Why Jesse Lee Soffer Joined FBI: International After Leaving Another Dick Wolf Universe Series

EXCLUSIVE: Jesse Lee Soffer explains why he joined FBI: International after leaving Chicago P.D., which is another Dick Wolf universe series.

This process will reinforce Scott’s strengths as a leader, which are already sorely missednow that Mitchell is in charge. Scott understood diplomacy and was able to talk down local police who wanted to arrest FBI agents for doing their jobs or otherwise interfere with investigations. These are skills that Wes does not currently possess and that he needs to learn immediately if he hopes to be successful in his new job.

Wes has a steep learning curve ahead of him that demonstrates taking Scott’s place is not as easy as it seems from how quickly he got the job.

FBI: Internationalhas proven Wes is not the same asChicago PD’s Jay Halstead, but now it needs to show that Wes can be the leader he’s volunteered to be rather than a maverick whose impulses cause chaos during missions.
