There’s long been speculation about the relationship between Vi and Caitlyn, even in the originalLeague of Legendsgame that inspiredArcane; Vi’s nickname for Caitlyn, “Cupcake,” is often taken as evidence of a romance.Riot’sArcaneNetflix TV show seemed to be doubling down on this, with strong hints of intimacy between the two.
Speaking on the BAFTA’s Twitch channel,Arcaneco-creators Alex Yee and Christian Linke confirmed this was intentional. “We have always wanted to tell an organic story about Caitlyn and Vi that feels like it’s really true to how we see them, and how they’ve been seen,” Yee noted. “The way in which we wanted to roll that story out has always been sort of determined. What you will see in Season 2 will be part of the big picture that we’ve had all along.” Given those comments, it’s perhaps no surpriseArcaneseason 2, act 1 has immediately stepped things up.
Vi & Caitlyn Share A Kiss In Arcane Season 2
Shippers for this romance have called it “CaitVi,” andthey will no doubt be delighted to see the two share an on-screen kiss. This may not actually be the first time Vi and Caitlyn have kissed, though, for all it was passionate; Vi stayed over at Caitlyn’s house in season 1, and the creative team have confirmed they deliberately avoided showing whether they were intimate, leaving it to viewers' imagination. Now, though, there’s clarity. Unfortunately, although Yee hinted viewers would be happy with the romance, it doesn’t look as though things will be smooth sailing.
Vi & Caitlyn Choose Different Paths In Arcane Season 2
The problem, though, is that Caitlyn and Vi seem to be on very different paths. Vi is desperate for her love not to change, but the sad truth is thatCaitlyn’s grief after her mother’s death has already changed her; she is harsher, more brutal and vindictive, and willing to accept collateral damage as she andVi hunt Jinx. That willingness to sacrifice others proves too much for Vi, and the two part ways - only for Caitlyn to subsequently be appointed to the ultimate position of power in Piltover.
8 Things That Need To Happen In Arcane Season 2 Before The Show Ends
After the bombshell announcement that season 2 will be the final outing for Arcane, a number of things must happen before the show concludes.
Arcaneseason 2 feels like something of a tragic love story so far, but that doesn’t mean it will end with sorrow. It’s reasonable to assume the love between Caitlyn and Vi will become one of the central plots, with Vi attempting to draw Caitlyn back from the abyss of grief she has stared too deeply into.
