Today’s Connections Category Hints

JANUARY 09 #578

This one may require a few hints for you to get right, although this run went a little better for me than the last one. This one had words I was slightly more familiar with, and the purple category felt a bit easier. However, that was mainly due to my familiarity with the subject, which always makes a big difference in each puzzle. That being said, here are four clues to help you get the win as I did.

10 Strands Strategies To Quickly Solve The Theme

Strands is one of New York Times' many puzzle games that consists of a unique 6x8 word search that requires players to use zig-zag solutions.

If those hints were not enough, there are still plenty more to come.Next up are the category names, which are extremely helpful to have and what I wish I had access to most days. After that will be the full spoilers.

STAND

TABLE

This one was fairly obvious to me, mainly because I just came back from a conference and a market not too long ago.I have also considered being a vendor at several types of markets in the past, although I’ve never actually done so. Maybe one day I will have a little TABLE to barter at, but that likely won’t be for a while. It is kind of fun to plan out though, so one day I will have all the plans up and ready to go.

SIT

STAY

This one actually took me a moment to see, but I think the amount of small words was a little overwhelming when I first saw the puzzle. Because of that, I didn’t look much at them until I had a reason to. Then, however, I saw that these were all commands, and it made sense to put them together. Once I processed this category, it was easy, but getting to that point was not as easy.Sometimes it’s all about your mental state going into the puzzleas opposed to your knowledge of the words.

The Spelling Bee puzzles created as a New York Times game build a streak of correct answers to get you more points, but they can be hard to keep.

SALES

This one I was familiar with and even had most of the words highlighted at one point, but I could not see the word IT in the puzzle even when I was staring right at it. I believeit blended in with the other little words, but I was able to get there in the end which is all that matters. Sometimes that is why it is in your best interests to step away and come back to the puzzle later so that you know what you are looking for and can see it with fresh eyes.

TO

SHINING

I actually got this one second, which was in part due to seeing SHINING and SEA right next to each other. I had other ideas as well, butI went ahead and guessed the whole phrasejust because I thought it might be a possibility. It was amusing to see that I was right, but it was nice to walk away from the puzzle with a win. I’m not sure if I would have done as well if I hadn’t gotten this category up front, but that is not a concern for me today.
