Today’s Connections Category Hints

AUGUST 3 #418

These categories have some interesting word choices and a fair amount of nuance to distinguish them. This can make it difficult, but luckily for you, we have some hints about the various categories:

RUSH

THRILL

As the yellow category should be, this was the easiest one to figure out in today’s puzzle. None of the other words had anything “exciting” to make me think they belong here. The onlypotential trick lying in wait in this category might be KICK,as it could be seen as a type of show that might be long with HEELS. Luckily, there are not many shoes in today’s puzzle, making it a little easier.

STOMACH

TAKE

When you TOLERATE something, it is often amatter of how much you can TAKE. Boundaries are different for everyone, and everyone can STOMACH slightly more of something than someone else. Inversely, others can BEAR things, and some cannot. This category did not have many tricky words, except perhaps BEAR, which could have been paired with the other animal words to create a different category but did not.

Wordle, the popular word-guessing game hosted by The New York Times, has over 1,700 words remaining as possible solutions.

BUNK

TRIPE

BULL and TRIPE could also end up in the animal category, but in this case, they bothmean something more like “nonsense.“Likewise, BALONEY here is not the food (spelled quite differently and is a big hint as to what the category might be) but a word meaning something similar to BUNK. All of these words typically mean someone is not giving you the truth or is telling quite a story. Luckily, in this case these are all the honest answers for the blue category today.

REMOTE

TONGUE

As Dorothyclicked her HEELSto go home, I realized that the MOUSE was not the animal but the object sitting next to my keyboard right now. REMOTES are never very far away, and I click my TONGUE on my cats to get their attention. This was another one where I felt Ishould have been able to guess the categorybut didn’t until I saw the final answer after I selected the remaining four words. That being said, a win is a win either way, so I’ll take it.
