This brilliantStar Warscosplay proves just how alikeAnakin Skywalker/Darth Vaderand his sonLuke Skywalkerreally are. There are manyparallels between Luke and Anakin Skywalker’s storiesinStar Wars, ranging from their upbringings on Tatooine (although Anakin’s was undoubtedly much bleaker) to their discovery of the Force and beginning of their Jedi path later in life. This father-and-son duo really does perfectly represent the ‘rhymes’ thatStar Warsmovies and TV showsare so known for. A recent cosplay has made this even clearer, however, with one charming prop.

The Darth Vader cosplay, posted on Instagram bynoahjmaurer, humorously shows Darth Vader kicking back, relaxing, and enjoying a glass of blue milk while lounging on a beach chair. One photo in the triptych even shows Vader with his hands splayed as though the Sith Lord is truly just there to have a good time—a genuinely hilarious image given the menace Vader really was.

While it is sweet to imagine Vader and Luke sharing a familial affinity for this iconicStar Warsdrink, the connection between father and son was actually rather serious—in many ways, the paternal bond between Anakin and Luke Skywalker saved and forever changed the galaxy.

What Darth Vader And Luke Skywalker’s Relationship Meant For Star Wars

The moment Luke Skywalker discovers Darth Vader is really his father is one of the most important in the entire franchise. Not only did this twist come to define much oftheStar Warstimeline, both before and afterThe Empire Strikes Back, but also, this connection ended up being crucial to Luke and Anakin. Luke famously took this information very badly, screaming that it was impossible for Vader to be his father.

ByReturn of the Jedi, though, Luke had completely changed his tune. He had a newfound belief that his father still had good in him and could be saved. This reflected tremendous growth on Luke’s part, yes, but it also had massive implications for the entire galaxy because, in the end, this is precisely how the Sith and the Empire met their end (at least temporarily, in the case of Palpatine).

Were The Jedi Right About Attachments?

There’s no question Anakin Skywalker’s attachments were a major problem in the prequel trilogy. Anakin may not have fully fallen to the dark side untilStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, but the death of his mother nearly sent him careening down that path long before that, evidenced by Anakin’s brutal slaughter of the Tusken Raiders. Yet,Luke’s ability to redeem Anakin proves that attachment can have its benefits. It was only because Luke was Anakin’s son that Anakin returned to the light side of the Force, saving the galaxy.

All 15 Defining Moments In Anakin Skywalker’s Fall To The Dark Side

Anakin Skywalker’s fall to the dark side of the Force is a pivotal event in Star Wars, and 15 key moments defined how that turn happened over time.

Given that, it’s fair to question whether attachment in and of itself is really a problem or if there was something about Anakin’s nature that made his relationships so dangerous. Other Jedi, such as Kanan Jarrus inStar Wars Rebels, have had attachments—even romantic ones—without falling to the dark side. There’s a fair case to be made that the Jedi got this one partially wrong. ThisDarth Vadercosplay may be a wonderfully creative, lighthearted image, but it is also a reminder of how critical Anakin and Luke Skywalker’s relationship was inStar Wars.
