Summary
AStar Warsdeleted scene fromStar Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clonesmight have givenC-3POandPadméa lot more depth and connection with the rest of theStar Warsmovies and TV shows. During the events ofAttack of the Clones, Anakin and Padmé attempt to visit Anakin’s mother, Shmi Skywalker, on Tatooine, after he has visions concerning her. This process leads them to the Lars homestead, where the duo reunites with C-3PO.
C-3PO was built by Anakinhimself over 10 years earlier, and would later be passed on to the Organa family before eventually winding up back on that farm with Anakin and Padmé’s son, Luke Skywalker. Padmé and C-3PO, however, originally had much more of a connection in one specific deleted scene fromAttack of the Clones. This deleted scene would have added a lot more legacy for Padmé with her children, and in the Skywalker saga as a whole.

Star Wars: How Old Padmé Is Compared To Anakin In The Prequels
Padmé is older than Anakin Skywalker throughout the Star Wars prequels, but here’s how old they both are in comparison to one another in each film.
Padmé Originally Gave C-3PO His Silver Plating In Attack of The Clones
The Deleted Scene Reveals The Transformation
During Anakin and Padmé’s time in the Lars homestead, there was originally a scene where C-3PO received his silver outer plating from Padmé herself. She would have stumbled upon the protocol droid in the inner workshop area of the homestead and questioned his happiness in that situation. C-3PO would then express his distaste for being “naked,” andPadmé would scrounge up some protocol droid plating to cover up all of C-3PO’s wires and bits that were showing inStar Wars: Episode I -The Phantom Menace.
That means in the original script forAttack of the Clones, Padmé herself was the one to give C-3PO his original silver outer plating. The scene also showed Padmé’s kindness and compassion, while also giving both Padmé and Anakin a role in creating C-3PO, from a certain point of view. It also meant, however, that some other scenes that took place chronologically earlier needed to be redone.

Padmé Amidala
The elected Queen of Naboo, Padmé Amidala won galactic acclaim for her heroism when she led her people against the Trade Federation. She became an influential member of the Republic Senate, but her life changed forever when she fell in love with Anakin Skywalker. Padmé Amidala found herself torn between her love for Anakin and her belief in the principles of the Republic, especially when Anakin became Darth Vader. She was brutally attacked by Anakin on Mustafar, and died in childbirth.
Phantom Menace C-3PO Would Have Appeared Again
The Naked Droid Did Not Return In Episode II
Along with the creative decision of Padmé giving C-3PO his silver plating comes a little bit of a ripple effect in the story of the movie.Attack of the Clonesreintroduces audiences to C-3PO with his silver plating on, buthad the deleted scene been included, viewers would have met him in the same form as he was inThe Phantom Menace, a droid without a shell. This might not have made sense considering the time gap and C-3PO’s supposed discomfort with his mechanical parts showing.
C-3PO
Created by Anakin Skywalker, C-3PO was originally supposed to help Anakin and his mother Shmi during the galactic adventures Anakin dreamed they would have together. Instead, C-3PO became a gift to Anakin’s beloved wife Padmé Amidala, and soon found himself thrust into galactic affairs for decades. Threepio has proved himself a key asset to both the Rebel Alliance and the Resistance.
10 Star Wars Deleted Scenes That Could’ve Changed Everything
Of all the deleted scenes in Star Wars, 10 stand above the rest for how much they could have changed their movies and the entire franchise.
Deleting This Scene Lessened The Connection Between Padmé & C-3PO And Diminished Her Legacy
Padmé Is Less Connected To Luke And Leia
The biggest impact of removing this scene is lessening Padmé’s connection to Luke and Leia, and the rest of the Skywalker saga. As stated earlier, C-3PO was built by Anakin Skywalker, and therefore it’s really special that Luke and Leia have such close interactions with a droid hand made by their father. With Padmé’s addition of the outer plating, though,C-3PO would have served as an outward reminder of both parents instead of just one.
Padmé’s legacy in the Skywalker saga is a big issue in general, with her role across the prequels diminishing more and more as the movies went on. She is certainly one of the most important characters in the entireStar Warstimeline, and it’s a shame so many of her prominent scenes were deleted in not onlyAttack of the Clones, but especiallyStar Wars: Episode III -Revenge of the Sith. Overall, this deleted scene reveals a little bit of Padmé’s heart, which unfortunately wasn’t featured in the telling of one ofStar Wars’most important series of events.
