Chantel Everett and Pedro Jimeno’s relationship onThe Family Chantelwas undoubtedly a disaster, but I think outside factors were to blame for their divorce. Pedro and Chantel met in the Dominican Republic on90 Day Fiancéseason 4 when Chantel was on vacation in Pedro’s home country. The pair decided to travel back to the United States to get married, much to the chagrin of Chantel’s family. While their relationship seemed to be smooth sailing at first, Chantel’s family, especially Karen Everett, never trusted Pedro’s intentions with their daughter.

WhileThe Family Chantelseason 5is in the rearview mirror, there’s still plenty of drama from the fallout ofPedro and Chantel’s divorce. Lidia Morel and Nicole Jimeno always meddled in Pedro’s life, with the Dominican man often siding with his family over his wife, leading to strife. Chantel’s family just wanted to protect her from heartbreak, but Pedro ultimately still left Chantel to pick up the pieces of their failed relationship. Pedro and Chantel had issues with their marriage, but I honestly think outside forces ultimately led to their separation. Here’s why.

Nicole Made It Known She Didn’t Like Chantel

She Wanted To Ruin Her Life

Nicole made it known from the start that she couldn’t stand Chantel and wanted to ruin her relationship with Pedro. She was super vocal about her dislike for her sister-in-law onThe Family Chantel, and while it wasn’t clear whether she was derogatory to get screen time or break Chantel and Pedro up, she got what she wanted in the end. The negative commentary occurred both in confessionals and in conversations with Pedro.Nicole criticized Chantel’s personality, appearance, and relationshipwith Pedro at every possible turn.

Pedro never stood a chance against Nicole’s manipulative ways.

Nicole consistently supported her brother in distancing himself from Chantel. She suggested that Chantel was controlling, and that Pedro would be better off without her. However, Chantel really wasn’t controlling; she just wanted Pedro to prioritize her and their marriage. This created more tension as Chantel felt that Nicole was influencing Pedro’s decisions, which was blatantly true.

Nicole positioned herself as being on Pedro’s side no matter what. When Chantel expressed concerns about Pedro’s relationship with Nicole, it only deepened the divide, as Nicole would dismiss Chantel’s feelings and accuse her of being manipulative. It seemed like Nicole’s main purpose in life was making Chantel’s existence unbearable.

Pedro’s Family Was Too Involved In Their Relationship

He Cared More About Their Opinions Than Chantel’s

Nicole was way too involved in Pedro’s relationship with Chantel, but so was his mother, Lidia. Lidia meddled for the same reason Nicole did: screen time. All she cared about was getting money out of Pedro and maintaining his loyalty. Lidia was highly critical of Chantel and would encourage Pedro to focus on supporting his family in the Dominican Republic, which strained his relationship with Chantel.

Lidia’s distrust of Chantel and constant criticism caused even more friction, especially when she made Pedro feel responsible for his family’s financial well-being, adding pressure to the couple’s already tense dynamic. She and Nicole would feed off of each other, filling Pedro’s mind with doubts about Chanteldespite his alleged love for his wife. The American woman never stood a chance against Pedro’s trifling mother and sister.

Lidia further proved her hunger for fame and attention when she appeared inLove In Paradise: The Caribbeanas the love interest of Scott Wern. Their romance didn’t work out in the end, but Lidia appeared desperate to find her own ties to the United States. She also continued to pressure Pedro for money, and voiced her disdain for Chantel. While Pedro could have tried to defend Chantel, he chose not to do so.

Even Chantel’s Family Got In The Mix

Karen Couldn’t Stand Pedro

Karen, Chantel’s mother, was also highly critical of Pedro, especially after his sudden change in behavior before their divorce. From early on, she was suspicious of his intentions, suspecting thatPedro married Chantel for a green card. She even labeled him a “sanky-panky,” a term for men who exploit relationships with Americans to secure U.S. residency. Her suspicions appeared more valid after Pedro’s attitude towards Chantel shifted around the time he became eligible for a permanent green card. Pedro claimed he didn’t marry Chantel for a green card, but it’s entirely possible.

Karen’s disdain for Pedroeven increased after their divorce. She found satisfaction in liquidating his belongings, including selling his gaming chair for $1, symbolizing her eagerness to erase him from Chantel’s life. However, it wasn’t just Karen. River Everett also had longstanding issues with Pedro and felt protective of his sister. With both families openly hating each other, I think it’s no wonder that Pedro and Chantel eventually got divorced. They both prioritized their families' opinions over each other’s.

She’s Still Jealous Of Chantel

“Beauty fades, dumb is forever.”

Nicole recently made fun of Chantel’s career switch from nursing to injections, posting a reel from@his_daughter_7featuring Judge Judy saying, “beauty fades, dumb is forever.” Chantel is less focused on her appearance than Nicole, but Nicole, always a hypocrite, still has to hate Chantel for any reason at all. It’s embarrassing, but ultimately, I think Nicole got what she wanted all along. Nicole hated Chantel so much that allowing her sister-in-law to be happy was never enough. Envy is a powerful drug.

Unfortunately for Nicole, she didn’t think things through. Now that Chantel and Pedro are divorced, she’s completely irrelevant. The only reason whyNicole continues to hate on Chantel online is to maintain relevance. Hopefully, Chantel will ignore Nicole in the aftermath ofThe Family Chantel. She doesn’t deserve a platform after being one of the main causes of Pedro and Chantel’s divorce. Nicole might want to be a beautiful model, but her behavior isn’t attractive. I think she caused Pedro and Chantel’s breakup.
