Warning! This article contains spoilers for Creature Commandos episode 3.

Creature Commandosis kicking theDCUinto high gear in the very first outing with some brutal battles that could bleed into the rest of the DCU, especially for one Wonder Woman villain.Creature Commandosis the first entry in the DCU, and as such, it comes from the talented new head of DC Studios, James Gunn. So, the series, of course, features a lot of the typical violent, funny, and wild esthetics that accompany Gunn’s work.

For instance, the first three episodes have introduced the anti-heroes whose brutal and inhumane fighting styles have proved perfect for Waller’s intense and direct approach, as she wields Task Force M as her own personal weapon. For their debut mission, she sends the unruly team to fight off a super threat in the form of Circe, one ofthe Amazonians from Themyscira, who is now attacking a small neighboring nation known as Pokolistan. While there, the team confronted Circe, andleft her in a pretty bad condition.

After Circe brutally destroys GI Robot, and then makes her way to take down Princess Ilana, she finds herself on the receiving end of a gruesome beatdown. Weasel, one of the least human creatures on the team, formed a strong connection with Ilana after she played fetch with him in the previous episode, and so when he sees her in trouble, he rushes in to help. Then, he unleashes his full monstrous power as he claws, tears, andbites away at Circe’s flesh.

Creature Commandos Episode 3 Easter Eggs And DC References Explained

Creature Commandos episode 3 features some pretty exciting Easter eggs and references to the greater DC Universe beyond Task Force M alone.

As if that wasn’t enough, Circe is then incapacitated on the ground, and theterrifying Batman villain, Doctor Phosphorus, approaches with his hand outstretched, burning and destroying the skin on Circe’s face. Considering Phosphorus was literally exploding Circe’s men with his touch moments earlier, this is sure to do some significant damage, and for one brief moment at the end of episode 3, Circe can be seen, battered, bruised, burned, and captured.

Why Circe’s Redesign May Be Permanent In The DC Universe

The DCU Is A Connected Universe

As noted above, Phosphorus touch was fatal to many large powerful men who worked alongside Circe. Now, as Circe is an Amazonian, from the same group of powerful women as Wonder Woman, it makes sense that she would not be killed by this, but it would be surprising if it didn’t leave at least some kind of scar. Thestrength of her enhanced healing hasn’t been revealed, but it would be odd to inflict so much damage just to reverse it one episode later.

And if the scars do remain, it could be something that comes up again in the DCU, consideringGunn’s intention to connect the showsand the movies throughout. It would also help toestablish how formidable the Creature Commandos are, with their powers and strength causing lasting damage to what essentially amounts to a god-like individual. And the scar would have more benefits in other ways that could help to enhance the DCU as a whole.

Circe’s Redesign Shows A Perfect Way To Tie Live-Action & Animated Releases Together

The Details Can Make All The Difference For The Future Of The DCU

James Gunn is intent on starting the new universe in a more united way, so what better way to highlight that connection than to make things from this animated show carry over to the live-action projects? It’s great to include the same heroes and villains, use the same actors, and all of these details, but to really make it feel like a unified DCU,Gunn needs to ensure that smaller details and plotlines connecttoo. So, having Circe get scars inCreature Commandos, could be a great segue that leads into an eventualWonder Womanproject where Circe returns with these same scars.

DCU Star Gets Their First Live-Action Look In Stunning DC Character Art

One member of the DCU’s Creature Commandos' Task Force M jumps from animation to live-action in an amazing piece of DC Universe fan art.

If that happens, it could help to generate more interest in the shows that establish these details, and make the larger DCU a more full and rich experience. Especially since there could be many people who approach the DCU cautiously after the DCEU’s failures, and so they may avoid small and seemingly insignificant projects likeCreature Commandos. By filling in the details in these shows, and showing that things happen and change as influenced by them, it could help tomake the whole DCU a stronger franchise, with connected storytelling and clever throughlines, so I, for one, vote that Circe should keep the scars afterCreature Commandos.
