Although it’s been a year since the release ofStarfield, players are still discovering new places of interest in the expansive, randomly-generated space game. While one of the main criticisms of the game is the repetitive nature of some environments like Spacer caves or the Abandoned Cryo Lab, otherPOIs and environmental features are much more rare, like lava streams andStarfieldrivers and lakes. One player stumbled upon a POI that many have likely not seen, even after hundreds or thousands of hours of playing.

The userPedro_MS83on Reddit discovered a seemingly abandoned camp with a ship crash landing marker — a common POI on planets inStarfield. However, what’s different from this crash, unlike the vast majority of others, is there is actuallya small makeshift camp with the ship being overtaken by the surrounding terrain, along with a shallow cave found nearby.

The top comment on the post demonstrates how rare this find actually is, with user Haravikk commenting, “I haven’t seen that one at all after 500+ hours.” The user also comments on another rare POI that they found called the Meteorite Testing Site, which, according to another user in the thread, contains a data slate from a scientist who warned of the incoming meteor shower that would go on to devastate the rare location.

Random POIs Should Have Built-In Lore & Side Missions

Starfield POI Tables Need Adjustment

Although the data slate in the rare Meteorite Testing Site is a coolStarfieldEaster Egg, it highlights a huge missed opportunity for the game because these interesting and rare POIs don’t have some sort of side mission or something more substantial to do. Bethesda’sFallout 4, after all, had awide plethora of different side missionsthat were obtainable in The Commonwealth. From notes to radio tower transmissions,Fallout 4did a much better job at creating what felt like a living, breathing world in many ways.

There are random side quests players can find inStarfield, but many missions come via the mission terminal, which creates an immersion break for many random locations.

Before the release ofStarfield, Todd Howard correctly predicted that players would continue to find cool, hidden things in the game years after its release, but it shouldn’t be a result of skewed RNG tables that prefer one POI layout over the other. Although these rare occurrences do have the wow factor when long-time players eventually stumble upon them, lava, lakes, and cool crash-landing sites should not require hundreds of hours of investment.

All 10 Differences & Universes In Starfield’s New Game Plus

There are different variable dimensions once Starfield’s main campaigns are finished. Here are the most interesting ones discovered in the game.

Although not confirmed via game files or Bethesda, it seems some of the more eye-catching and engaging or interesting POIs are skewed toward not spawning as often as others. While in one respect, this makes these locales even more interesting when discovered, in another sense, it’s also locking out some of the most fascinating content for the vast majority of players who haven’t poured hundreds of hours intoStarfield.
