Atollon Is A Key Planet In Star Wars Rebels

The Site of Chopper Base

AfterThe Onyx Cinderauto-jumps to hyperspace, the crew of kids have no idea where they are orhow to get back to their homeworld of At Attin. Likewise, the ship’s old droid first-mate SM-33 (Nick Frost) has no memory of At Attin nor its coordinates. To that end, he mentions other worlds that sound similar such as Al Alcor, Aldhhani, and Atollon. While Al Alcor seems to be a new planet and Aldhani made its debut inAndorduring the heist arc to steal an Imperial payroll,Atollon was a major world featured inStar Wars Rebels.

All 28 Star Wars Easter Eggs & References In Skeleton Crew Episodes 1 & 2

Skeleton Crew has premiered on Disney+ with its first two episodes, featuring some very exciting and fun Easter eggs and Star Wars references.

As seen inStar Wars Rebelswhich takes place in the years just beforeA New Hope, Atollon became a perfect planet to host a new secret base for the Rebellion’s Spectres and Phoenix Squadron. Dubbed “Chopper Base” in honor ofGeneral Hera Syndulla’s loyal astromech who helped locate the world, Atollon was such a prime world due to its position in uncharted space in the Lothal sector and away from any major hyperspace routes. Aside from the Force being known as the Bendu, Atollon was largely uninhabited due to its arid climate.

Buried Underground For Protection

Beyond Atollon,Skeleton Crew’spremiere episodesalso feature another key reference toStar Wars Rebels. While the kids were still exploring the buried freighter, they initially thought it might have been an ancient Jedi temple. Having a love for all things Jedi, young Wim shares that some Jedi temples could bury themselves as a form of protection from intruders. As such, this is a clear reference to the Jedi temple on Lothal that was featured multiple times inStar Wars Rebels.

“The Jedi temple on Lothal could indeed bury itself and be brought back up by the master and apprentice’s combined use of the Force…”

SM-33 with Fern

DuringKanan Jarrus' training of Ezra Bridger as his Padawan, the Jedi duo would visit the Lothal Jedi temple multiple times. Likewise, the Jedi temple on Lothal could indeed bury itself and be brought back up by the master and apprentice’s combined use of the Force. Keeping that in mind, the Empire naturally struggles to access the secrets of the Lothal temple as seen in the final season ofStar Wars Rebels.

What Do Skeleton Crew’s Two Rebels References Mean?

Expanding Both Pirate and Jedi Star Wars Lore

On the surface, both Easter eggs toStar Wars Rebelsare fun and cool nods to the beloved animated series. However, they also further flesh out the lore surrounding both Atollon and Jedi Temples overall in theStar Warscanon.Although Atollon was a widely uncharted planet, it’s notable that SM-33 had the world in his memory banks, suggesting that he and his old captain and crew had once visited the world previously. As such, this implies that Atollon might have once served as a key pirate hideout before the Rebellion settled there in the early days of the Galactic Civil War.

Likewise, it’s also important to note that Wim says that multiple Jedi temples could bury themselves as a means of protection. While the Lothal temple is the only one that’s been shown on-screen thus far, it seems it wasn’t unique in its defenses. It seems that the burying technique was used inthe construction of multiple Jedi temples across theStar Warsgalaxy at large.
