Star WarsintroducedCoruscant’s Jedi TempleinStar Wars: Episode I -The Phantom Menace, and audiences saw its fall duringOrder 66two movies later inStar Wars: Episode III -Revenge of the Sith. Now, a recent comic has revealed that during the tumultuous events of Order 66, there was another Jedi Temple in a much more remote region. In fact, looking at the wider universe, there may have even been multiple Jedi Temples at the time.

The Jedi arts were not to be taken lightly, and required much dedication, living in the space where one trained. This is where Jedi Temples come into play, and decades before Order 66, there were many more Jedi Temples across the galaxy. The assumption was always that they had all closed down long before Order 66, but it turns out that this is actually not the case!

The Jedi Kept At Least One Other Temple During The Clone Wars

Jedi Temple Outposts Lasted Much Longer Than Expected

During theHigh Republic era, Jedi Temples were much more common than during the prequel era. This time period, first explored in books and later inThe Acolyte, saw Jedi Temple Outposts as way points for Jedi living and training across the galaxy, from theCore to the Outer Rim. As the events of this era unfolded, though, the Jedi Order slowly became more reclusive.

Every Jedi Temple In Star Wars Canon (& Where They’re Located)

There are so many Jedi Temples across the Star Wars galaxy, from Coruscant in the Core to Ahch-To in the Unknown Regions. Here’s every temple in canon

Largely thanks to the efforts of the villainousNihiland their leader Marchion Ro, but also because of later periods of peace and Republic dominance, the Jedi slowly moved back to just Coruscant. The assumption, thanks to books likeThe Living Forceby John Jackson Miller, was that nearly every Jedi Temple off Coruscant was closed by the time of Order 66or the Clone Wars.Inquisitors#4, however, just proved that idea completely wrong with the Jedi Temple on the planet Zondula.

The 501st Raided Other Temples, Not Just Coruscant

Zondula’s Temple Fell To The Clones

Inquisitors#4 by Rodney Barnes and Ramon Rosanas is part of a comic series about just that – theImperial Inquisitors, dark side agents sent to kill the remaining Jedi. In this particular issue,Star Warsintroduced the planet Zondula in an all-too-familiar Order 66 flashback, with the501st clone troopersarriving and raiding the temple. They slayed its Jedi inhabitants identically to how the Jedi were slain on Coruscant.

This flashback completely reframes the Order 66 fans thought they knew from the likes ofRevenge of the Sith,The Clone Wars, andThe Mandalorian. While the central Jedi Temple on Coruscant’s fall was monumental, it was not the only Jedi Temple to be devastated by this tragic event. The knowledge that Jedi were much further spread across the galaxy than just those on Coruscant with their clone units makes Order 66 seem like a much more complicated operation, and an all the more impressive feat of evil.

Were There Other Jedi Temples During The Clone Wars Too?

Other Instances Of Off-Coruscant Temples

Other Jedi Temples have appeared around this era before, but never fully staffed and manned by Jedi as far as Order 66.The Temple of Eedit on the planet Devaron, first appearing inThe Clone Warsseason 3’s episode “Monster”, existed during the Clone Wars, but Savage Opress slayed the two lone Jedi there, likely leading to the temple’s end. The halls of Ilum were also considered a Jedi Temple, but not one that housed Jedi training and living quarters – and it was confirmed to be turned into an Imperial facility soon after.

Ilum’s Jedi Temple was definitely destroyed by 34 ABY, as the icy crystal planet was turned into Starkiller Base, which was destroyed by Poe Dameron inStar Wars:The Force Awakens.

The only other known Jedi Temple could possibly come from the novelAftermath: Life Debtby Chuck Wendig. The book describes Rae Sloane remembering legendary Imperial Army officer Hodnar Borrum as having led the charge of a group of clone troopers during the Jedi Purge. This charge was against the final group of survivors of the Jedi Purge, holed up in a mountaintop fortress, possibly another Jedi Temple like the one on Zondula.

What Happened To The Clones In Star Wars After Order 66?

The clones in Star Wars were manipulated and mistreated by the Empire after the Republic’s dissolution and Order 66. What became of them afterwards?

Either way, the Zondula Jedi Temple alone makes Order 66 into a very different event. More than just the Jedi on Coruscant or Jedi Generals were devastated by their own clone troopers, as Jedi who were simply training or living out on the galaxy’s frontier were targeted as well. Zondula shows us just how horrifying this was, while also opening the door to more potential stories about Jedi survivors inStar Wars' forgotten Jedi Temples during Order 66.
