Getting The Lockpicking Ability
TheData Spike is the tool that Kay will need to start lockpickingand one that she has to find for her first mission in the game. She will approach a dealer to get the Data Spike fixed, and from there she has to do an assortment of things to get the right amount of credits. This will lead topickpocketing, stealing, and some selling various valuablesto one of two merchants in Canto Bight.
If you are struggling to find the 150 credits,use Nix’s ability to highlight things in the area, which will usually lead you to items for him to fetch. Additionally, listen to the people around you as they will give you hints about where more valuables might be found.
However, once you have150 credits you may return to the dealerand get your Data Spike back. From there, it is a matter of approaching the first mission where you will first begin to master the art of lockpicking.

Rhythm And Timing
Lockpicking turns out to be a little more complicated than it would first appear. Instead of using the analog sticks or manipulating the controller like in many other games, it ismore of a rhythm-action mini-game. You will be able to hear a few beeps, and you have tomatch the rhythm in order to successfully lockpick anythingacross themap ofStar Wars Outlaws.
This means you do have to have your sound on, althoughthere is also a light that will light up to cue you inon the rhythm if you have hearing issues. When you first attempt to use the Data Spike, you will be shown a screen that gives you a couple of hints. This is where you can also change the setting toenable a UI helper. This will give you another visual cue if that helps you more than the audio.
Additionally, you areallowed to move the camera a little while lockpicking, which is helpful if you are sneaking around enemies and want to know if they are moving toward you again. If you are using a controller with haptic feedback, thevibrations can also give you a hint as to when to press the buttonin time with the rhythmic beeping.
If you find yourself struggling,try closing your eyes and listening. It is sometimes easier to get the beat right if you are not waiting for the visual cue as the timing has to be fairly precise.
Lastly, if you are struggling even with the various cues and hints, youcan go into the settings menu to change the difficulty of the Dataspiking.
