Star Trek Strange New Worlds Crossover Beckett Mariner

All I can share with you is that we keep writing it, and we keep turning things in, and they keep saying, ‘Please keep writing.’ So, as long as they allow us to do that and they don’t say, ‘Stop. Close your computers and go home,’ we’ll continue making it. And yeah, as long as they don’t tell me, ‘Please shut your laptop and throw it in the sea,’ I will keep working on it. It’s been such a joy. I love Justin Simien with all my heart. I can’t wait to hopefully keep doing it.

What These Comments Mean For A New Star Trek Sitcom

Paramount Seems To Be Giving Creatives Plenty Of Autonomy

Of course, as Newsome suggests, the network will need to be happy with the creative direction of the show, particularly because developing aStar Treksitcom is already a big risk. But it does seem that Paramount is allowing her to map a creative direction without too much interference, seemingly giving the greenlight to continue if they’re happy with what Newsome and her team are producing. This should be a positive factor forupcomingStar Trekmovies and TV shows, and suggests that the network is open to leaving major creative choices to its writers and directors.

The subjective nature of comedy means it is always best to leave the writers to do their own thing, and Paramount clearly trusts Newsome and her team to get the job done

No details are known about the show as of yet, butNewsome’s involvement with bothLower DecksandStarfleet Academywill make her something of a franchise veteran, as well as giving her the platform for blending both comedy and drama and perfecting her role as a performer and writer, which is going to prove invaluable for the franchise’s first-ever live-action sitcom. The subjective nature of comedy means it is always best to leave the writers to do their own thing, and Paramount clearly trusts Newsome and her team to get the job done.

Our Verdict On Whether Star Trek’s Live-Action Sitcom Will Happen

Paramount Is Looking To Expand The Franchise

Michelle Yeoh’sStar TrekmovieSection 31will continue the franchise’s movie releases, but with shows likePicardandDiscoveryhaving come to an end, andLower Decksin the middle of its final season, Paramount will be looking to develop future TV projects to keep the universe evolving. I think a sitcom is a big risk for the Star Trek franchise, and one that will either be a huge success, or back-fire spectacularly, but it shows a bold move from the network, and provides viewers with something unique and original for the future ofStar Trek.
