IDW Publishing shared their October solicitations withLeague of Comic Geeks, which included a first look atStar Trek: Lower Decks#1’s variant covers. The bookwill be written by Ryan Northand drawn by Derek Charm, who previously collaborated on the Eisner-nominatedShaxs’ Best Day.

For the first issue, artist Chris Fenoglio, who also drew theLower Decksminiseries from 2022, contributes an ominous variant cover, showing the evil Badgey cradling a bone-eating Moopsy–with a sinister grin on his face, leaving fans wondering what chaos he has planned.

Star Trek: Lower Decks, which is heading into its final season, is a loving send-up of the franchise. The show chronicles the exploits of a gaggle of ensigns at the beginning of their Starfleet careers.Lower Decks, in addition to its wholesome character dynamics, is full of Easter eggs for long-time fans, and rewards their devotion. The show has also made some unique contributions toTreklore of its own. Two of them are Badgey and the Moopsy–and both are bad news for anyone unlucky enough to come across them.

Badgey, introduced in the first season episode “Terminal Provocations,” is a parody of the “Clippy” assistant found in Microsoft Office products. Resembling an anthropomorphic Starfleet badge, Badgey, as his creator Rutherford called him, quickly developed a sadistic streak, and tried several times to kill him and theCerritos’ crew. The Moopsy, introduced duringLower Decks’fourth season, is one of the most vicious creatures in the galaxy, despite its cute appearance. It is capable of devouring its prey’s bones in a matter of seconds. Both characters quickly caught on with fans, and Paramount has even released plush Moopsies.
