Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Captain America #14!Spider-Man,Captain America, andThorhave famously fought side-by-side in Marvel Comics asmembers of the Avengers, but they’ve almost always just been separate heroes that happen to be on the same team, with no central focus on the trio specifically. That is, until now, as the three Avengers are about to embark on an official team-up mission in Marvel Comics, and their group’s codename is absolutely perfect.
InCaptain America#13 by J. Michael Straczynski and Carlos Magno, Steve Rogers finally succeeds in the mission that he’s been on since the start of this run: defeating the living embodiment of Death on behalf of the living embodiment of Life. While Steve is certainly shaken by the experience - having literally had a brush with Death - and still isn’t sure if he even did the right thing by meddling with powers he really didn’t understand, Captain America has decided to move forward, and he’s doing so with two of his greatest allies: Spider-Man and Thor.

THE NEW WARRIORS THREE! J. Michael Straczynski revisits THOR and SPIDER-MAN! Still reeling from recent events at the Front Door Cabaret, Captain America needs friends now more than ever. But Spidey and Thor have problems of their own, and so the impromptu Warriors Three set out on an adventure that will either draw them closer together or drive them all insane!
At the end of this issue, readers are given a sneak-peek at the next in the form of the cover art and official description. The cover ofCaptain America#14 shows Steve Rogers standing side-by-side with Spider-Man and Thor, with the description of the issue teasing their upcoming team-up mission. Not only that, but fans are given the name that this group has decided to go with, one that has deep-cut ties to Thor specifically:the Warriors Three.

Thor Just Formed an All-New Warriors Three with Captain America and Spider-Man
The Original Members of the Warriors Three were: Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg
The idea that Marvel Comics is introducing an all-new Warriors Three, and that the members are some of the biggest A-listers the publisher has, is incredibly exciting, though it’s hard to ignore the stark difference between this new incarnation of the team and the original.
The original Warriors Three debuted inJourney Into Mystery#119, and the team consisted of three Asgardian warriors: Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg. That story immediately established the characters of each member, with Fandral playing the part of a dashing warrior, Hogun as the dark and grim type, and Volstagg as the cowardly comedic relief. Since then, the Warriors Three have become a mainstay in Thor mythos, as they have fought by his side in many subsequent storylines, and even have a few Thor-less stories in Marvel canon as well.

The Warriors Three arguably reached the peak of their real-world notoriety when the team made its live-action debut in the MCU, appearing inThor,Thor: The Dark World, andThor: Ragnarok(as well as archival footage inThor: Love and Thunder). However, despite their long-standing Marvel history, the Warriors Three were never really a major hit with fans. Sure, it was fun to see them from time-to-time, but one would be hard-pressed to find anyone who’s anxious to see a Warriors Three-heavy story. But now, with Marvel’s new Warriors Three, that sentiment is sure to change.
Marvel Fans Should Be Excited to See the New Warriors Three for 1 Reason: J. Michael Straczynski
The Marvel Comics Writer has Crafted Some of the Best Stories Featuring Captain America, Spider-Man, and Thor
While the idea that Captain America, Thor, and Spider-Man will make up Marvel Comics’ new Warriors Three is incredibly exciting, it becomes even more so when considering who will be writing their story. J. Michael Straczynski is crafting Captain America’s current continuity, which has explored who Steve Rogers is as a person just as much as it’s explored why Captain America is such a great hero, adding layers of depth to the character that few writers have captured before - and this isn’t specific to Captain America.
J. Michael Straczynski wrote one of the most highly acclaimedSpider-Manruns in the hero’s history, one that focused on Peter’s relationship with Mary Jane, and even expanded on the emotional depth of Aunt May. It also gave fans some truly badass moments, like when Spider-Man (in his black suit) nearly murdered the Kingpin, as well as a really fun Spidey story that shows Peter fighting a villain on his birthday (with flashbacks to other classic battles with the likes of Doc Ock and Green Goblin).

J. Michael Straczynski also penned one of the greatestThorruns in Marvel Comics history. He literally brings Asgard back from the dead following Ragnarok, iconically placing it in Broxton, Oklahoma, thereby making Thor’s presence in Midgard even more significant. Plus, this story begins right afterCivil War, and shows Thor’s wrathful fury toward Tony Stark - and that’s just the setup. J. Michael Straczynski’sThor(like withCaptain AmericaandSpider-Man) expanded his wider lore and personal character immensely, standing as one of the best.
The Avengers' New Matching Costumes Officially Give Them Extra Powers
The Avengers got new matching costumes in Marvel Comics, and not only will they make them more identifiable, they also grant each hero extra powers!
Marvel Comics fans are well aware of how awesome Captain America, Spider-Man, and Thor are from their extensive histories, especially when they’re written by J. Michael Straczynski. And now, that same writer is teaming them up as the new Warriors Three, honoring the Asgardian trio’s legacy while simultaneously breathing new life into it. While it’s unclear what the story will be, everything points to it being an absolute treat for fans, asSpider-Man,Captain America, andThorbecome an official team with a truly perfect codename.
Captain America #14by Marvel Comics is available August 11, 2025.
Captain America
Initially debuting in 1940, Captain America is the patriotically themed superhero who has shared the title with only a few individuals. Beginning with Steve Rogers, Captain America’s birth resulted from a frail man taking part in an experimental U.S. Army super-soldier trial, which imbued him with super-human abilities. The character is often depicted wielding a nigh unbreakable and aerodynamic shield made of vibranium that they use to defend and attack their foes.
