The powers of the Juggernaut are front and center inAmazing Spider-Man#70 (2022)—by Joe Kelly, Ed Mcguinness, Mark Farmer, C Cafu, and Marcio Menyz—asSpider-Man becomes a Juggernaut of Cyttorakhimself, teaming up with Cain Marko to confront Callix, Cyttorak’s corrupted scion. The two prepare to end Callix’s madness for good, with the original Juggernaut asking Spider-Man if he’s familiar with the concept of the"Fastball Special."

Given the nature of the Juggernaut’s powers, which render him functionally unstoppable, this may wind up asthe most powerful Fastball Special in Marvel history.

The Juggernaut Is About To Give The Greatest Fastball Special Of All Time

Colossus and Wolverine’s Signature Tag-Team Move Just Got a Major Upgrade

Marvel’s Fastball Special first appeared inX-Men (1963)#100—by Chris Claremont, Dave Cockrum, and Bonnie Wilford—in whichWolverine tells Colossus to throw him “just like we did it in the Danger Room"at a robotic doppelgänger of Angel. Since then, this move, in which Colossus throws Wolverine at their target, has become not only the pair’s signature tag-team technique but also a Marvel icon. It’s often used to spice up particularly dramatic brawls or unlikely team-ups. Even rival publisher DC has gotten in on the action, replacing Wolverine with members of the Bat-Family.

The version that appears inAmazing Spider-Man#70elevates the Fastball Special beyond its normal scope due to the nature of the Juggernaut’s powers.Asthe earthly avatar of the outer deity Cyttorak, the Juggernaut possesses near-limitless physical strength; once in motion, the Juggernaut cannot be stopped save by his own will. This defining trait makes the Juggernaut the perfect candidate for either side of the Fastball Special, giving an incredible boost to whomever he throws, or transforming the Juggernaut into an unstoppable missile—provided someone with sufficient strength can be found to launch him.

For better or worse, the X-Men have entered a new era of comics, with one iconic X-character being treated far better than his mutant colleagues.

Nothing Can Stop The Double Juggernaut Fastball Special

This May Be One Of The Strongest Team Attacks In Marvel History

Now that Spider-Man is a Juggernaut, readers can finally see what happens when a Juggernaut is on both sides of the Fastball Special. For context, the Juggernaut is so strong that,in X-Men(2024) #13—by Jed MacKay and Netho Diaz—not even Storm, powered by the embodiment of the entire Marvel Universe, could stop him. That level of force has become both the"pitcher"and the"ball"in the Fastball Special, meaning a literally unstoppable force is about to launch an equally unstoppable object at their shared enemy in an attack of truly cosmic proportions.

The"Fastball Special"has been Wolverine and Colossus’s special move for years, but now their technique has reached its absolute zenith in the hands of Cyttorak’s avatars: infinite force behind a missile of infinite power. TheJuggernautandColossushave faced each other many times before, sometimes as friends and sometimes as enemies, but this new display of power has just topped anything theX-Menhave been capable of before.
