The following contains spoilers for Paradise season 1, episode 8, “The Man Who Kept the Secrets.“Paradiseshow creator Dan Fogelman addresses Sinatra’s (Julianne Nicholson) fate after the season 1 finale’s cliffhanger ending. Following President Cal’s (James Marsden) assassination in the first episode, season 1 unravels the mystery and introduces Sinatra, the mastermind behind the post-apocalyptic bunker, Paradise. While the mystery is solved atthe end ofParadiseseason 1,Sinatra is seen unconscious on a hospital bed after being shot by Jane(Nicole Brydon Bloom), the double agent who killed Billy (Jon Beavers).
In an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, the show creator confirmedthat Sinatra will be in season 2. Fogelman explained that the season 1 finale saw “Sinatra at her lowest point.” However, just like “any delicious leader,” she’ll find a way to “regain control,” and how she climbs back to the top will be explored more in season 2. Check out what he said below:

She’s incapacitated. But Julianne is going to be in the show next year, and she’s not going to be in a bed the entire season. However Sinatra, like any delicious leader, even when she’s a step behind the curve and losing control, she always seemed to find a way out of it and regain control. What you’re seeing at the end of the season is Sinatra at her lowest point. She’s lost control. She’s physically incapacitated. This crazy young woman [Jane] is hovering over her and so the question of season two is: How does she come back to center? How does she attempt to regain power? Is she able to? Do the turn of events cause a change in her? Those are all the large questions on the table.
Fogelman further teases that he plans to involve the character in a bigger mystery taking place in the city. With Sinatra still in the game, she remains “the driver” of the underground bunker. Read his comment below:

Oh, absolutely. Yes, yes, absolutely. Before you came on for this interview, I was just pitching Julianne some giant stuff from season two, all out of order and complicated (laughs). But yes, it’s fair to say that Sinatra remains the driver of this bunker city and as we get into season two down below [in the bunker], there’s a bigger story and mystery that involves this city that Julianne’s character has been at the forefront of the entire time. So there’s a lot more to be revealed.
What Fogelman’s Comment Means For Paradise Season 2
Sinatra Could Potentially Have A Recovery Arc In Season 2
Sinatra is still a major player inParadiseseason 2, but the season 1 finale left her at her worst moment. Fogelman’s comments suggesta potential character arc in season 2, which could explore Sinatra’s recovery from the trauma, both physically and emotionally, and how she fights to climb back to the top against all odds. By the end of season 1, the dirty truth of Paradise has been revealed, in addition toJane’s shocking twist. At the same time, Sterling K. Brown’s Secret Service agent, Xavier Collins, is heading out to the post-apocalyptic world for his wife, who turned out to be alive.
Paradise’s Mysterious Killer, Explained: Who Killed Cal Bradford, How They Did It, And Why
Paradise has been driven largely by the mystery of who killed Cal Bradford, and the season 1 finale reveals some pretty big twists about it.
The wayParadiseseason 2 is set upsuggests a much more complicated plot, and Sinatra, as “the driver” of the bunker city and one of the biggest villains in the show, will likely again be at the center of the mystery. However, whether her desperate attempt will yield a desirable result is unknown. The creator’s comment about him at the pitch stage also hints that the plan could develop and become something else going into a new season. However, one certainty is that Sinatra will return.

Our Take On Sinatra’s Fate In Season 2
Sinatra Won’t Be The Same
It’ll be interesting to see how season 1’s events affect Sinatra in season 2, given her moral ambiguity. She is far from a traditional villain, believes in the greater good, and shows remorse for the bad things that happened. The fact that the death of her son was the true cause of her startingthe Paradise Project to preserve humanityshowed a genuine intention from the character. However, by episode 8, it also becomes obvioushow far she’s willing to goto protect her paradise.
Before Jane pulled the trigger in theParadiseseason 1 finale, Sinatra showedremorse for kidnapping Xavier’s daughter, thinking that her action led to another child’s death (Xavier’s daughter is alive). After being shot and betrayed by Jane, the beginning of season 2 will likely catch Sinatra in a different mindset. Everyone reacts to trauma differently, but for Sinatra, whether it’ll make her a more dangerous villain or just the beginning of her fall is forParadiseseason 2 to explore.
