AlthoughScream 6was the first movie in theScreamfranchise not to star Neve Campbell and David Arquette, it finally gave fans a character beat they have been wanting to see for 27 years. The Ghostface killer is notorious for calling his victims to torment them before he attacks. This is how the first move began, with Ghostface calling Casey Becker before killing her and her boyfriend, Steve. It’s established a core element of the series. Throughout the franchise, Courtney Cox’s Gale has never had a call — untilScream 6.
Although audiences were gifted with the chance to seeGale accept a call from Ghostface, Gale had a surprisingly small amount of screen time in the most recent installment of theScreamfranchise. Part of this was because of the impact of the attack on her. If Gale wasn’t attacked, she probably would have been around tofight Ghostface in the final actof the film. This, unfortunately, makesGale’s call from Ghostface quite bittersweetas it gave audiences what they’ve been longing to see for so long, whilst also ensuring Gale couldn’t take part in the film’s finale.

Scream 6 Finally Allowed Gale To Have A Call From Ghostface
The Film Gave Audiences What They’ve Always Wanted
The scene where Gale gets a call from Ghostface inScream 6is the most iconic scene of the movie and a treat for longtimeScreamfans. Despite the danger posed by Ghostface, Gale kept her composure and tried not to let her fear get the better of her. She even cracked jokes about being a journalist and having wanted an interview with Ghostface for such a long time. This just perfectlyshows who Gale is as a character, sarcastic and confident even while terrified. Gale kept her cool and didn’t give her attacker the satisfaction of scaring her.
This could have been done to scare Gale and leave her wondering where [Ghostface] had gone, but it felt different from other Ghostface attacks.

Although Ghostface always hides for the anticipation, something felt different in this scene, highlighting the unique energy the film gave this confrontation. Once Gale retrieved her gun, Ghostface fled to hide in the wardrobe. This could have been done to scare Gale and leave her wondering where he had gone, but it felt different from other Ghostface attacks. It could be argued that Ghostface wasn’t used to someone fighting back as much as Gale did. It’s the rare time in the series someone gives Ghostface just as much trouble as he’s dishing out, giving this face-off more unique qualities.
Gale’s Fight With Ghostface Resulted In Her Missing Scream 6’s Third Act
The Lack Of Screen Time Was Obvious In The Sixth Installment
Ghostface’s attack on Gale actually has a lot of subtle similarities with the scene where Ghostface killed Dewey inScream 5.They both ran towards Ghostface rather than away, refusing to back down from his presence. As well as this, both of their last thoughts before they passed out were about protecting their friends. Dewey ran back to kill Ghostface so he couldn’t hurt Gale, Sidney or cause anymore harm, whereas,Gale was insistent for Sam not to tell Sidney that Ghostface got heras she didn’t want Sid to return and face the danger of being attacked.
Scream 6’s Divisive Ending Was Let Down By This Popular Character Return
Scream 6 welcomed back Hayden Panettiere as popular survivor Kirby Reed. However, her return was underwhelming and led to a disappointing final fight.
Although the scene finally showed audiences Gale in action in a one-on-one fight against Ghostface, her injuries were so bad that she was taken to hospital. Gale wasn’t seen after her phone call inScream 6,making it the firstScreammovie that she missed the final act. This was very disappointing, as it meant that there were no legacy characters in the final fight.Gale could even be revealed to have diedfrom her injuries ofScream 6. Unfortunately, the fact Gale missed the final fight makes Courtney Cox’s future in theScreamfranchise uncertain, as she still hasn’t signed on toScream 7after her big fight scene inScream 6.
