Saw XIwill feature the return of Tobin Bell’s Jigsaw. The character, whose real name is John Kramer, is a cancer patient and engineer who places his victims in deadly traps to teach the survivors moral lessons about how to embrace life. Although he died during the events ofSaw III, the complicated interlocking timeline of the franchise has allowed him to appear in nearly every installment of the 10-part franchise, which will soon include theupcomingSaw XIafter the success of 2023’sSaw X, a prequel centering Bell’s character between the events of the first two movies.

While speaking with theLos Angeles Times, Tobin Bell confirmed thatJigsaw will once more be playing a major role inSaw XI. It’s all in the writing. It’s not all one guy outside the screen door with sidelight on him. I’m really excited about continuing to develop him. John Kramer is not done. There’s more to learn.

What Jigsaw’s Return Means For Saw XI

The Saw Timeline Is About To Get More Complicated

Although it makes sense that the character will be returning inSaw XI, which is a direct sequel to the 2023 movie, Tobin Bell’s confirmation means that theJigsaw timelineis going to become even more complex. There is only so much time during which the movie can take place, as the character’s death at the end of the third movie takes place roughly a year after the events ofSaw X. Thus, the movie will likely take place over a short period of time in order to fit in with continuityand allow for potential future sequels.

The character has now been dead for more installments in the franchise than he has been alive…

However, though the timeline mechanics may be slightly complicated, this does not preclude the character of Jigsaw from becoming deeper and more complex in the newSawmovie. The character has now been dead for more installments in the franchise than he has been alive, and further insight into his character has been offered in a variety of ways, exploring unseen avenues of his life. ThisincludesSaw Xpresenting the most up-close and personal story yet for the character, examining his relationship to his mortality, the way he ideates traps, and many of his more vulnerable and human qualities.

Our Take On Jigsaw’s Role In Saw XI

There Are Many Avenues For The Character To Go

Saw XIcould indeed further the character growth of the previous movie, especially if it continues to explore the paternal relationship between Jigsaw and the young Mexican boy Carlos (Jorge Briseño), with whom he forged a bond over the course of a grisly adventure in the previous installment. The previous movie alsoteased that the new movie will further explore the character’s relationship with Hoffman(Costas Mandylor) in the way that the prior one did with Amanda (Shawnee Smith), giving him a very different personality to play against and, in the process, potentially show more sides of his own.
