Ridley Scotthas announced that he’s working on a newAlienmovie, and it can finally fix the franchise’s canon by answering the unanswered questions fromPrometheusandAlien: Covenant.Scott’s unfinishedAlienprequel trilogyleft a bunch of lingering mysteries. Why did David kill all the Engineers? When did David kill Shaw? What’s David’s plans for the facehugger embryos? It always felt like there was at least one more movie needed to connect David creating an army of xenomorphs to Weyland-Yutani assigning Ash to bring a xenomorph back to Earth at the expense of his crewmates.
WhileAlien: Romulusacknowledged the canonical changes of the prequels by includingPrometheus’ black goo and making the Offspring look like a mutated Engineer, it didn’t really answer any of the prequels’ questions. 20th Century Studios is developing a direct sequel toAlien: Romulusthat will continue the story of Rain and Andy, butScott is simultaneously developing his own newAlienfilmseparate from that. AfterRomulusteased the mysteries ofPrometheusandCovenant, Scott’s movie can address those mysteries head-on and finally clear up the confusion they caused.

Ridley Scott Making A New Alien Movie Means Those Prometheus & Covenant Mysteries Can Finally Be Solved
Scott Can Bring Back David & His Unanswered Questions
Afterthe box office disappointment ofAlien: Covenant, the third and final chapter in Scott’sAlienprequel trilogy was called off. While it was exciting that the series continued withAlien: Romulus, which proved to be a return to form, the fact that Scott’s prequel story would remain incomplete — just when it was getting exciting — was a massive let-down. Now, Scott will finally get the chance to finish that story with a newAlienfilm. Scott’s thirdAlienprequel can be the perfect middle ground between the contemplative sci-fi ofPrometheusand the intense haunted-house horror ofCovenant.
Prometheus Was Always An Underrated Alien Movie & I’m Delighted It’s Finally Getting Its Due
Prometheus has always been one of the Alien franchise’s most underrated entries, and I’m glad it’s finally getting the appreciation it deserves.
Scott’s newAlienmovie can show what David was planning to dowith Daniels, Tennessee, and the facehugger embyros. It seems likely that he was planning to put the facehuggers on them and birth a couple of xenomorphs, but then what? Maybe he was planning to conduct further experiments on the xenomorphs themselves to see what makes them tick and try to replicate their perfect biology. He was likely plotting the same experiments that failed on the Renaissance station and gave Rain and Andy the worst day of their lives inRomulus. Now, Scott can finally make that happen.

Ridley Scott is co-executive-producingAlien: EarthwithFargocreator Noah Hawley.
20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell recentlyteased a newAlien vs. Predatorcrossover moviethat wouldn’t be anything like the previousAvPfilms. Asbell promised that any futureAvPmovie wouldn’t be a standalone, non-canonical entry, but would instead tie in with the existing characters and storylines.Alien: Covenantleft David preparing to experiment with the survivors and a pair of facehugger eggs. Perhaps his experiments could lead him to the Predators’ planet and he’ll bring them into the officialAlienmythology. That’s just one of many possibilities for where David’s story could go next.

The Alien Canon Has Not Been Consistent For A While
TheAlienfranchise’s canon has never been 100% consistent, but ever sincePrometheuscame along with its xenomorph origin story, it’s really gone off the rails. The xenomorph itself has evolved from being a single, naturally formed entity with a short lifespan to a massive, thriving colony with familial love and a long lifespan to a genetically engineered monstrosity grown in a lab. TheAlienfranchise has changed what the alien is from movie to movie.Alien: Romulustries to collate all these different ideas, but the mythology is still a mess.
