The newestRick and Mortyspin-off isfinally giving me the Meeseeks story I’ve wanted since season one. When the Meeseeks Box was first introduced, I was immediately captivated by the concept of Mr. Meeseeks. He was an incredibly funny side-character, one that deserved more screen-time.Now,Rick and Mortyfansare finally getting more of him, with a spin-off series that has my anticipation through the roof.

According to League of Comic Geeks,Meeseeks P.I.is a four-part limited series – written and illustrated by Fred C. Streising –starring the iconic blue side-character as a detective as he sets out to find the remote to the Interdimensional cable box. However, things go array when he and Jerry discover “a massive interdimensional cable conspiracy hidden right under their noses!”

Meeseeks P.I. #1 cover, featuring Mr. Meeseeks in a detective outfit, alongside Jerry, Summer, Morty, Rick and Beth.

It’s exciting for Mr. Meeseeks to receive his own solo series after years of being a fan-favorite, and the set-up for his big adventure is everything I could have wanted in a Meeseeks-centric story.

Mr. Meeseeks first appeared in theRick & MortySeason 1 episode “Meeseeks and Destroy.”

Rick & Morty’s Meeseeks Episode Has a Secret Ending TV Fans Didn’t See

“Meeseeks and Destroy” is one of the most beloved episodes of Rick and Morty, though it has a secret ending even the most hardcore fans haven’t seen.

Mr. Meeseeks Shines In A Rick & Morty Comic Spin-Off, With A Hard-Boiled Detective Story

Meeseeks P.I.– Written & Illustrated By Fred C. Streising

Meeseeks P.I.’s only purpose is to find the remote, so he might understandably become annoyed when things take a turn in an unexpected direction.

The decision to make Mr. Meeseeks' first solo story into a mystery is a stroke of genius. One of the funniest details andbiggest flaws about Meeseeksintroduced in their first episode was that they wouldn’t disappear until completing their task. The longer they stay alive, the more pain they feel.By turning Mr. Meeseeks into a private investigator, it gives him much-needed narrative pressure to solve the mystery as quickly as possibleso he can go away, or else feel never-ending pain.

Ultimately, it will be interesting to see how his character changes the further the story goes on.Detective stories aren’t meant to be easily solved, so while he may come out of the box excited to help withhis iconic catchphrase, Mr. Meeseeks has a strong chance of becoming more gruff and restless as the cable conspiracy begins to show itself. After all, Meeseeks P.I.’s only purpose is to find the remote, so he might understandably become annoyed when things take a turn in an unexpected direction.

Mr. Meeseeks Turn As A Detective MakesMeeseeks P.I.Ripe For Comedy Potential

Meeseeks P.I.seemingly delivers on everything that made"Meeseeks and Destroy"one of the best episodes ofRick and Morty, and I’m very excited to dive into it once the compiled paperback arrives this September.

The best part of the premise forMeeseeks P.I.is who kicks off this mystery to begin with. Jerry Smith is the one who calls for Mr. Meeseeks' help, and anyone whoremembers the original episode of the showwill immediately see just why this could work as a comedy. Jerry is the one who asked a simple request of Mr. Meeseeks that ultimately led to them needing help from other Meeseeks because he showed no improvement. Bringing him back here is a perfect way to reintroduce Mr. Meeseeks into his own story.

That is to say, Jerry likely won’t be looked kindly upon by the Meeseeks.Meeseeks P.I.is currently available now from Oni Press with all four parts available to buy through individual issues. However, a trade paperback copy is set to be released in September of this year. It is amazing that I hadn’t heard of this series until now, becauseit seemingly delivers on everything that made “Meeseeks and Destroy"one of the best episodes ofRick and Morty, and I’m very excited to dive into itonce the compiled paperback arrives this September.
