InStar Wars, astromechs likeR2-D2are invaluable assets consistently used across the galaxy for various tasks and have served Jedi, Sith, and human and alien beings for generations. But not all droids are created equal. With R2-D2 arguably being the most popular droid in all of Star Wars lore, there’sanother astromech named BT-1who has secured his place as one of the deadliest around, showing what an unhinged droid is capable of when there’s no one around to stop him.
A droid mostly used for maintenance, repairs, hyperspace calculations, general space navigation, hacking, data collation, and much more, astromechs, like R2-D2, are plentiful in the galaxy, with their companionship and help on the battlefield more often than not being the deciding factor in a fight, regardless of which side they’re affiliated with.

Yet for as iconic andresourceful as R2-D2 is in Star Wars, he eventually met his match in BT-1, a psychotic comic-exclusive astromech who not only enjoys carnage and destruction in all its forms but, most of the time, is the one causing said destruction, to begin with!
Star Wars’ BT-1 Droid Shows What Would Happen if R2-D2 Ever Broke Bad
BT-1 Has Yet To Make Any Live-Action Appearances
Introduced in 2015’sStar Wars: Darth Vader #3by Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca, BT-1, or Beetee, is an assassin droid disguised as an astromech initially created by the Tarkin Initiative. Eventually tinkered on by Doctor Aphra, Beetee served under Darth Vader himself and has been teetering on the edge of being a straight-up villain and reluctant muscle ever since. Meeting R2-D2 on more than one occasion,Beetee has shown how deadly he can be in a fight, with his cache of missiles, explosives, blasters, electric prods, and even a flamethrower proving his mettleas a deadly mechanical warrior.
Star Wars Reveals R2-D2 Has A Girlfriend in New Canon (Yes, Really)
Star Wars' new Dark Droids crossover has revealed that R2-D2 surprisingly has his very own girlfriend (someone he’s known for quite a long time).
While R2 has his fair share of unique abilities, offensive techniques, and defensive strategies that make him a formidable foe, Betee was quite literally programmed to be a murderous maniac, with his penchant for shooting first and never asking a single question later making him a far more unpredictable and ruthless droid compared to R2. In fact, when R2 and Beetee first met in 2015’sStar Wars #13, Beetee unleashed hell on R2with a hidden arsenal of weapons, proving his deadly nature tenfold. Of course,Beetee isn’t the smartest droid, but with firepower like his, thinking is optional.

BT-1 and Triple-Zero Are Psychotic Droids Who Make R2-D2 Look Tame in Comparison
Other astromechs in Star Wars lore have similar mean streaks compared to R2 and Beetee — specifically,Chopper fromStar Wars: Rebelsfame, who actively chooses violence rather than being forcibly programmed to — butBetee and his partner-in-crime, Triple-Zero, have made a name for themselves as a sadistic duowho love to torture, murder, and maim, putting them on a whole other level of deadliness.BT-1deserves to be adapted into live-action or, at the very least,Star Wars’ growing animated space, so here’s hoping somewhere down the lineR2-D2and his evil twin will meet outside the comic book panel.
