Gigantamax Lapras is arriving inPokémon GOvia 6-Star Max Raid Battles, being strong enough that you’ll need a specific team of counters to target its weaknesses to defeat this boss. A step up from 5-Star Raids and Mega Raids,Gigantamax bosses are the most powerful bosses introduced to the game so far. You’ll not only need to be more careful about which Pokémon you bring in, but you’ll also have a larger minimum number of players to bring into the fray with you as a Raid party.
Following the launch of another giant boss Pokémon like Gigantamax Blastoise, Charizard, and Venusaur during theMax Out season, the arrival of Lapras' similar new transformation is a grand way to kick off the following season: Dual Destiny. On the other hand,the window of opportunity to get this epic version of Lapras for yourself is somewhat limited, only being available on a single day for a few hours. With that, you and every other keen member of your raiding party will need to act fast so you can add this iteration of the Transport Pokémon to your collection.
Gigantamax Lapras Weaknesses & Resistances
Four Weaknesses You Can Exploit
Even in its Gigantamax form, which is new inPokémon GO, Lapras is still a dual Ice and Water-type, meaning it has four weaknesses:Fighting-, Grass-, Electric-, and Rock-type attacks. This means that any of these attacks will deliver 160% super-effective damage compared to normal. Moreover, if a Pokémon of the same type uses a move, that attack is given a 20% STAB (same-type attack bonus). If you want to deplete the 6-Star boss' massive HP within the time limit, making the most of this bonus is a must.
You’ll need at least 10 players in yourPokémon GORaid party to even have a chance at beating Gigantamax Lapras. However, the more you get up to the entrant limit of 40, the better.
Going into such a high-level Raid, you must also be aware of the giant Pocket Monster’s resistances. InPokémon GO, Lapras isresistant to Water- and Ice-type attacks,each doing 63% damage and 39% damage respectively. Since you can only take Dynamax-capable or Gigantamax Pokémon with you into Max Raid Battles, you might be left with little choice but to take a Water-type with you if you have little choice, but keep in mind it won’t be as effective. If so, you’ll have to rely on other Raid party members, inflicting the most damage as a result.
Best Counters For Gigantamax Lapras
Grass, Electric, Fighting & Grass-Types
InPokémon GO, the best counters to take on Gigantamax Lapras are any of the currently available Dynamax-capable or Gigantamax Pokémon that can use super-effective moves likeRillaboom, Venusaur, Toxtricity, Excadrill, and Falinks. These are counters that can either be caught in previously active or existing Dynamax Pokémon as they are, like Falinks, or ones that can evolve from them, like evolving a Venusaur from aDynamax Bulbasaur inPokémon GO. Since there isn’t a wide pool of Dynamax-capable or Gigantamax-capable Pokémon available in the game, some counters can use super-effective moves but won’t get a STAB because of their typing. For example,I added the Normal-type Greedent to use Grass-type attacks to fill my team out since I only have a few Dynamax Pokémon that can get the same-type attack bonus. Gigantamax battles can be so difficult that they’re considered too hard, so you need as many suitable party members as possible.

The Max Battle Day, where you can defeat and catch Gigantamax Lapras starts onSunday, July 30, 2025, at 2:00 PM local timeand ends at 5:00 PM local time on the same day. You’ll ideally need to coordinate a Raid party in advance to get enough players ready in time. However, if you beat the Raid, and you’re lucky, there is a chance you’ll find a Shiny Gigantamax Lapras as well.
