Sony has just officially revealed thePlayStation 5 Proand fans are balking at the steep price point. The long-teased upgraded version of the bestselling PS5 is supposed to be a big step forward for Sony in terms of quality and power. However, the community response has been mostly negative, largely because of the console’s price tag.

The PS5 Pro will cost $699.99 at launch, as revealed on the officialPlayStationYouTube channel. This makes it $200 more than the original PS5 modelwith a disc drive when it launched in 2020.

Reaction to the news has been largely negative, and fans are blasting Sony for pricing the console so high. PlayStation’s mid-gen upgrade was something of an open secret while rumors circulated over the past year, but such a steep price point was unexpected.

Fans Don’t Feel The PlayStation 5 Pro Is Worth The Price Tag

The Console Just Isn’t That Much Better

The upcoming PS5 Pro console is meant to be an improvement from the classic PS5. In some ways, it is: new hardware will make the new console faster, and greater capabilities will allow for clearer images and a larger depth of view. Many are claiming that these improvements just don’t feel like enough to warrant purchasing it at an even higher price.

PS5 Pro Finally Revealed In Spider-Man 2, Hogwarts Legacy & TLOU 2 Tech Showcase

After months of speculation and leaks, the PlayStation 5 Pro has finally been revealed in a technical presentation.

Fans have taken to social media to express their outrage. Some are pointing out how outlandish the announcement is by noting everything else they could get for $700, like, for instance, “Nintendo Switch Lites for everyone in the family including the cat,” asPatStaresAton X (formerly Twitter) puts it. Some fans have even sarcastically pointed the finger atConcord’s recent monumental failureas the need for Sony to make back all its money from the game’s flop.

The console is being regarded as a barely noticeable upgrade to the original PS5. Sony’s presentation showed no new games for the upgraded console, and focused instead on improved visuals of existing games, including many that originally launched on the PlayStation 4. The comparison shots that are meant to get fans excited, though, seem lackluster to many and not too different from the already excellent PS5.

The PS5 Pro is also missing some key features. Most notably, the coming console won’t include a disk drive, making it impossible for fans to play any of their physical games on them without an external drive. Even the stand shown in Sony’s official presentation will not be included with the console, a carryover from the so-calledPS5 Slim redesign. YouTube usersalvadormendoza5045breaks down the costs in the reveal trailer’s comments: “$700 console, $30 stand, $80 disc drive. PS3 era expensive all over again.” Others add that the price will actually be much higher due to taxes and fees.

ThePlayStation 5 Proreveal has beenanticipated for a while now, and fans were expecting something more from Sony. Fans expected the console to be a major improvement over the PS5 or at least reveal some interesting new games. At a $700 price tag, the omission of some key features, and a low level of improvement, however, many are saying they may as well just buy a PC.
