What Hemsworth & Momoa’s Casting Would Mean For Pirates Of The Caribbean 6

The Next Movie Might Not Feature Many Returning Characters

Casting will be a major part of the upcomingPirates of the Caribbeanmovie, as it’s likely that relatively few familiar faces will be returning. Thestory of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom)and Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) seems to be over, and, after 2017’sPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Talesearned negative reviews and became the second-lowest grossing entry in the franchise, a fresh start might be on the way. That being said, franchise producerJerry Bruckheimer has expressed interested in bringing Depp backas Sparrow after the actor’s widely-publicized legal troubles.

Pirates Of The Caribbean Already Told You It Can Continue Without Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise may have a difficult time continuing without Johnny Depp, but previous movies have shown how it is possible.

Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) dies inPirates of the Caribbean:Dead Men Tell No Tales, meaning Depp may be the only lead actor to return, aside from other minorcrew members of the Black Pearl. Whether Depp returns or not,Pirates of the Caribbean 6will need a major star as an anchor, as it’s not clear how much of an audience draw Depp alone will be. Actors like Hemsworth and Momoa are not averse to joining big, blockbuster franchises and do seem like prime candidates to join the cast, and their star power could help the movie succeed.

Our Take On Pirates Of The Caribbean 6’s Cast

Is It Time To Move Past Jack Sparrow?

Depp’s Sparrow has been crucial to all previousPirates of the Caribbeanmovies, butthe character showed his limits inDead Men Tell No Tales. Part of Sparrow’s appeal is that he doesn’t really change, but this also makes him a challenging character to build a story around, as the last two movies proved. The franchise is in a tricky spot, then, because moving forward without Sparrow could risk alienating fans of that character, while pushing forward with another Sparrow-centric story could just end up feeling like a repeat of what we’ve seen before.

If thePirates of the Caribbeanfranchise is to succeed and have any form of longevity,it does seem inevitable that it will have to move beyond Sparrow at some point, and the sixth film could be just the place to introduce new characters for audiences to root for. It remains to be seen whetherPirates of the Caribbean 6will ever actually come to fruition, but getting the cast right will evidently be a major part of the puzzle.
