Marvel’s new, futuristic version ofStar-Lordis takingPeter Quill’s codename to the next level, showcasing a power level thatliterallyallows them to master the stars. Marvel’s newAnnihilation 2099series has introduced a range of new takes on iconic heroes, including Nova, Red Hulkand even ’90s hero Darkhawk. However, the most powerful of the lot is the new Starlord 2099, whose incredible abilities are ahugestep-up from the originator of the identity.

InAnnihilation 2099 #2, readers meet Amandla Estrellas, aka Starlord 2099. A hero from 2099’s Wakanda, Starlord is called to help the people of Orkastra-3 after the star at the center of their solar system gains sentience and begins destroying its planets. Taking the name Quasar, the sun is capable of ending entire worlds, and yet Starlord 2099 not only answers the call, but proves herself to be capable of taking on the godlike star one-to-one.

star-lord 2099 beats quasar 2099

Starlord 2099 was designed to give this alternate universe a powerhouse on thesame level as Thor and Captain Marvel, possessing vibranium armor and a powerful hammer that can absorb and redirect immense amounts of energy. She also possesses a similarly powerful ship, which Quasar attempts to crush by manipulating gravity. Thankfully, Starlord fends off Quasar’s attack and is able to destroy the technology which has given the sun a mind of its own, defeating the villain. By winning this fight,Starlord 2099 just became the first Star-Lord who can literally fight a star and win.

The issue hints that an aging Peter Quill helped to train Amandla and passed on his codename, but this hasn’t yet been explicitly confirmed.

Star-Lord’s New Ship Is the Most Powerful in Guardians History (& It Belongs to Peter Quill’s Replacement)

There is a new ship in town with Star-Lord’s name on it. No, it’s not for the Guardians of the Galaxy, but for Peter Quill’s 2099 replacement.

The New Starlord 2099 Can Literally Beat Up Stars

Peter Quill’s Overblown Name Is Actually True for Marvel’s New Hero

Peter Quill’s backstory has undergone several retcons over his time in Marvel Comics. The peak of his fame came in the MCU, played by Chris Pratt, with the movies depicting him as a slacker hero whose ‘Star-Lord’ name is more boast than fact. While the comics adopted this characterization for a while, Al Ewing’s recent tenure onGuardians of the Galaxybrought back a lot of Peter Quill’s original mythology, returning his powerful element guns andhis connection to the ‘Master of the Sun’- a godlike being who gifted Peter his high-level equipment, with hints that he is an alternate or future version of Star-Lord opening Peter’s mind to his full potential.

But whether cosmic slacker or nascent Master of the Sun, Peter has never been powerful enough to take hit after hit from a literal star, let alone beat it down in return. At the same time, Starlord 2099 is shown to have a vast interstellar network of star systems which she’s in charge of keeping safe, teleporting via new"Starpath"technology. Far more than Peter Quill,Amandla Estrellas lives up to the ‘Star-Lord’ name as someone who strides across the solar system, wrestling the stars themselves back into line when necessary.
