Though each of the movies has earned a splat from critics, the first and third have earned Fresh scores from audiences, with the most recent installment being Verified Hot, according to the review aggregator service’s latest metric for measuring audience reception. This means that, as far as viewers are concerned, the upcoming show does have big shoes to fill as the theatrical franchise remains on hiatusahead of the possiblesequel,Night Has Fallen. However, this trailer reveals several ways that the show may be able to do so.

Even without Butler in the lead,Paris Has Fallenalready promises sky-high stakes for the new action heroes at the center of this adventure. Additionally, having a pair of protagonists rather than a single hero allows the perspective of the story to spread out even further as Paris descends into chaos amid a bomb threat. The trailer also showcases a villain whose motivations are sympathetic even though his methods are not, which could add complicated wrinkles to the storyline as the nature of who is truly at fault for the situation becomes less and less clear.
