Summary

A quote fromThe Mandalorianseason 1 foreshadowed the character arc Din Djarin has gone through in the show’s first three seasons. Whether thestory ofThe Mandalorianseason 4will happen is unclear as of yet, but the characters will live on in other ways. AnupcomingStar Warsmoviewill continue Din Djarin’s journey, alongside that of his lovable adopted son, Grogu.

The Mandalorian & Grogu’s storyis set to be released in theaters in May 2026, allowing audiences to catch up with the titular duo for the first time sinceThe Mandalorianseason 3 in 2023. The latter project essentially wrapped up that character arc that theDisney+Star WarsTV showshave been telling thus far, bringing the first stage of both Din and Grogu’s character arcs to a close. Interestingly, the character arc experienced by Din Djarin was teased as early asThe Mandalorianseason 1 thanks to an epic quote from another character.

Din Djarin in The Book of Boba Fett and the Armorer in The Mandalorian season 3

Din Djarin Was A Self-Fulfilling Prophecy Of The Armorer’s Words

The Armorer Spoke True About Din Djarin’s Experiences

The quote in question comes from The Armorer, the shamanic Mandalorian who led Din Djarin’s covert on Nevarro. InThe Mandalorianseason 1, episode 3, Din visits The Armorer to have a new set of beskar armor crafted, with their words conveying a lot to the audience about the Way of the Mandalore. The Armorer sums this up better than anyone, insisting,“When one chooses to walk the Way of the Mandalore, you are both hunter and prey.”

This one line sums up the entire arc of Din Djarin, as evidenced by another part ofStar Warscanon. In the bookStar Wars: The Secrets of the Bounty Hunterswritten by Marc Sumerak, the in-universe narrator of the book supports how The Armorer’s words acted as a self-fulfilling prophecy for Din’sMandalorianseasons 1-3 arc:

“But whatever the case, Din Djarin quickly went from being one of the galaxy’s most desired hunters to one of its most wanted targets. The hunter, it seems, had become the hunted.”

Din was initially one of the most famous bounty hunters in the Outer Rim, part of the guild on Nevarro. After clashing with the Imperials and taking Grogu under his wing, the guild, the Empire, the New Republic, and several other groups fromThe Mandalorian’s underworld began hunting him. This continued intoThe Mandalorianseason 3 until Din and Grogu removed their enemies and settled on Nevarro peacefully.

The Armorer Was Right: This Was Also True Of All Mandalorians

The Armorer’s Words Extend To The Entire People Of Mandalore

Interestingly, the idea of hunters becoming hunted was true of all Mandalorians, not solely Din Djarin. BeforeThe Mandalorian’s Great Purge, and especially before the reign of the Empire, the Mandalorian people were feared throughout the galaxy. Mandalorians were long seen as the greatest warriors in theStar Warsuniverse, a warmongering, brutal group of people who rarely played well with others, exactly as hunters tend to be.

This eventually culminated in the Night of a Thousand Tears or the Great Purge, scattering the remaining Mandalorians across the galaxy to live in hiding…

However, once the Empire rose to power, Mandalore became the subject of a hunt. Other TV shows likeStar Wars Rebelsoutline this too, with the Empire searching for ways to make the Mandalorians subservient. This eventually culminated in the Night of a Thousand Tears or the Great Purge, scattering the remaining Mandalorians across the galaxy to live in hiding out of fear of being hunted by the Empire. As such, the words of The Armorer fromThe Mandalorianseason 1 do not only apply to Din but his entire race.
