Adam Wingard Is Writing The Script For A Live-Action Adaptation
Those hopeful that theThunderCats2025 movie rumors were true shouldn’t be too disappointed, because Adam Wingard still appears to be set onmaking his own live-actionThunderCats, just at a later date. The latest news about the project came in March 2024 when Wingard said (viaGizmodo),
“Simon [Barrett] and I are still actively working on the script. We finished our last draft basically right when I was going into production on this movie [Godzilla x Kong] and we just had to put everything on hold. [But] right now we’re actively working on it again. So whether that means that’s the next thing I do or [not], I’m not sure. But it’s definitely one of the top priorities I have right now in terms of working on a script.
While it hasn’t been confirmed if Wingard’sThunderCatswill be live-action or not, he said in an interview (viaCollider),
“You gotta take it seriously. In the cartoon, even though it was definitely for kids, the characters were in a fair amount of danger.”
His distinction of the original show as a cartoon suggests hisThunderCatswill be live-action.
