Nightbitch’s first trailer has arrived, unveiling a new look at the Amy Adams horror-comedy. Directed by Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood),Nightbitchstars Adams as Mother, a woman who comes to believe that she’s transforming into a dog. The film, which also stars Scoot McNairy, Zoë Chao, and Jessica Harper, is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before a wide theatrical release later this year.

Now,Searchlight Picturesreleases the first trailer forNightbitch, teasing the film’s absurd tone and commentary on motherhood and femininity. The trailer reveals that Adams' character, identified only as Mother, becomes increasingly frustrated with her life, slowly finding herself drawn to a dog lifestyle (and dogs are also drawn to her). While the trailer teases plenty of comedy, it also reveals that parts of the movie as her transformation accelerates could be somewhat unnerving, albeit in a darkly humorous way. What The Nightbitch Trailer Reveals About The Movie

This Movie Is Unlike Anything Amy Adams Has Done Before

Adams has enjoyed an impressive and varied career thus far, and she has tackled a variety of characters ranging from theheroic Lois Laneand the fantastical Giselle fromEnchanted(2007), to more serious figures in movies likeThe Fighter(2010) andArrival(2016). From what’s been revealed aboutNightbitchthus far, this upcoming project is poised to be new territory for Adams, especially in terms of tone and plot.

TheNightbitchtrailer does leave much to the imagination, and it’s not clear at the moment whether Adams' character is actually turning into a dog or if it’s all in her head. It’s possible, for example, that the dog transformation aspects of the film will be more of a metaphorical storytelling devicethan something that’s literally happening. Either way, however, the trailer makes clear that Adams' character’s increasingly erratic behavior results in alienation from her friends and family.

Our Take On The Nightbitch Trailer

Adams' New Movie Is Exciting After Some Recent Disappointments

Adams is arguably one of the most talented and reliably entertaining actors of her generation, andNightbitchcould be the perfect comeback after a disappointing string of releases. The responses to movies likeDisenchanted(2022),Dear Evan Hansen(2021), andThe Woman in the Window(2021), after all, were all lackluster from critics.

There’s reason to be optimistic aboutNightbitch, however, as the trailer teases that the film will take advantage of Adams' comedic sensibilities in a new way. There’s also a dramatic undercurrent to the trailer and the potential for some deeper thematic explorations, suggests her serious side will be coming out as well. It remains to be seen how audiences respond toNightbitch, but the film’s odd premise and tone could end up being divisive.
