New media forMario & Luigi: Brothershipreveals a lot more about gameplay and locations, but it’s also raised a few questions. The upcoming game was announced in June 2024 and promises to bring another chapter to theMario & Luigiseries. The new RPG comes nine years after the last title in the franchise and brings new places to explore and game mechanics to master.
New details have been revealed about the game onNintendo Japan, including two short videos showing off the battle system. In the video, animage of a spark plugshows up during battle, and it has fans baffled.

Several ideas are being suggested on a Reddit post byTaranBoi. Some users speculate that the plug is in some way related toConnie, the plug character introduced in theBrothershiptrailer, perhaps calling on her help in battle. The iconmight also be used to cast a thunder attack, supercharge the protagonists, or as a replacement for the badges mechanicfrom previousMario & LuigiandPaper Mariotitles. At this moment, there’s no official answer on what the icon does, but more may be revealed ahead of the game’s release.

New Images Introduce Mario & Luigi: Brothership Enemies And Islands
Islands And Brother Attacks Abound
While Nintendo doesn’t give fans any clues for what the plug does in battle, the company did release plenty of new information about the game’s setting.Brothershipwill send the Mario brothers to a brand new world, Conectal Land, which is made up of a number of curious islands. The brothers are set adrift on Ship Island, which is made up of a chunk of earth in the shape of a ship, complete with a tree sail.
Aboard their ship island, Mario and Luigi will set sail for several drifting islands, each with its own personality. Among these islands are the blocky, rugged Gran Gran Island, whose residents are artists and sculptors, the lush and natural tourist attraction of Tuis Isand, the historic Savireta Island, which currently has a mild kidnapping birds problem, and a number of other unique locations.

Nintendo has also revealed the addition of devastating new Brother Attacks which have the brothers attack in unison following some timed button presses. This will lead to engaging battles against the monsters that inhabit each island. In addition to the regular enemies found on the island throughout the world ofBrothership,the mysterious “Boldrud Squad” and their mysterious boss will be trying to thwart the brothers' progress at every step.
Thenew entry in theMario & Luigiseries will introduce a new worldfor players to explore, new enemies to overcome, and a whole new adventure.Mario & Luigi: Brothershipis scheduled to release on Jun 27, 2025.
