Summary
Star Warshas unveiled the first look at the upcomingThe Mandalorian & Grogumovie at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and the footage description includes a Nevarro tease that proves it will have to face one tragicThe Mandalorianloss. WithThe Mandalorian & Groguset to continue whereDin DjarinandGroguleft off inThe Mandalorianseason 3’s ending, it’s long since been assumed that Nevarro will play a major role in this movie. The planet’s involvement in the story, however, unexpectedly changed earlier this year, particularly pertaining to MagistrateGreef Karga.
Greef Karga has been played by Carl Weathers, who tragically passed away this past February, ever since the beginning ofThe Mandalorian. This is a loss that shocked more than just theStar Warsfranchise, as Weathers' legacy in this industry is nothing short of legendary. Following this tragedy, it was expected thatStar Warswould pay tribute to Weathers and Greef Karga inThe Mandalorian & Grogumovie, though there have only been limited details available about the upcoming project. Now, however, it’s clear thatStar Warswill have to confront this loss head-on.

The Mandalorian & Grogu: Everything You Need To Know Before Star Wars' Next Movie
From The Mandalorian season 1 to now, Din Djarin and Grogu have had many adventures that are important to know before their first Star Wars movie.
The Final Scene Of Grogu With The Anzellans Teases Nevarro’s Return
These Anzellans are No Doubt From Nevarro
The Mandalorian & Grogufootage description at D23ends with a scene of Grogu and the Anzellans, who Grogu “befriended” on Nevarro inThe Mandalorianseason 3, crammed together in a small space. Though inspired by theAnzellan Babu FrikinStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, these Anzellans have come to be closely associated with Nevarro, where they work as the planet’s droidsmiths. It’s unclear exactly why Grogu is nestled in an enclosed space with the two Anzellans, but what’s notable is the fact that it’s clearly the same ones who work on Din and Grogu’s homeworld.
Nevarro Cannot Appear Without Greef Karga’s Fate Being Addressed
Greef Karga & Nevarro Have Always Gone Hand-in-Hand
Now that the return of the Anzellans has all but confirmed the return of Nevarro itself, it’s impossible forThe Mandalorian & Groguto leave Greef Karga’s fate unaddressed.Magistrate Karga was the foundation of this entire town, having gone from the disgraced leader of the planet’s Bounty Hunter’s Guild faction to the High Magistrate who led his people to safety from thePirate King Gorian Shard. It’s clear that the people of Nevarro depend on him, which means that it’s just about impossible to return to this world without addressing what’s happened to him.
Greef Karga’s close friendship with Din Djarin would create an avenue where it had to be discussed, anyway.

Even then, Greef Karga’s close friendship with Din Djarin would create an avenue where it had to be discussed, anyway, especially since Din and Grogu now live in a cabin on Nevarro that Greef himself gifted to them. It would seem odd for Din not to address his close friend’s absence, especially with him being one ofStar Wars’most honorable characters in franchise history. If his burial for Kuiil inThe Mandalorianseason 1 is any indication, then Din and Nevarro will certainly be paying tribute to Greef Karga inThe Mandalorian & Grogu.
Carl Weathers' 10 Best Moments As Greef Karga In The Mandalorian
Carl Weathers' Greef Karga has been a staple of The Mandalorian since the beginning. Here are the actor’s 10 best moments as Din Djarin’s ally.
Star Wars Will No Doubt Honor Greef Karga & Carl Weathers
This Was Always Going to Be the Plan
While the appearance of the Anzellans and a return to Nevarro make it clear that Greef Karga’s fate cannot be ignored, this was likely the plan all along, anyway. Carl Weathers was always a major part ofThe Mandalorianfrom the beginning, even having the chance to direct an episode in both seasons 2 and 3. He was largely present at many fan conventions on behalf of theStar Warsseries, and his presence was simply so huge throughout every step ofThe Mandalorian’s journey thus far. He deserved to be in this big screen debut.
Even if he cannot physically be a part of this project,The Mandalorian & Grogu’s cast and crew will no doubt find a way to integrate him and Greef Karga into this story. The big screen will be the perfect way to display such a tribute to someone with a presence as strong as Weathers', and that’s somethingStar Warsno doubt recognizes already. Any look at Nevarro will likely offer a tribute to both Weathers and Greef Karga in some way, and there are a variety of avenues they can take in order to do that.

How The Mandalorian & Grogu Might Pay Tribute To Greef Karga
Star Wars Has Plenty of Options for Honoring Carl Weathers
There’s no limit to the number of opportunitiesThe Mandalorian & Grogumovie has to pay tribute to both Weathers and Greef Karga, butThe Mandalorianitself has already set up the best ways in which it can be done. The first and most likely option is for the old statue of IG-11 at the heart of Nevarro to be replaced by a statue of Greef Karga himself. Now that IG-11 has been rebuilt, and the statue has been partially dismantled, the statue’s place is empty, and having a permanent tribute to Greef Karga there would truly honor all he has done for Nevarroover the years.
To take things a step further,The Mandalorian & Grogucould even depict a funeral scene for Greef Karga on Nevarro. There wouldn’t be a single chance in the galaxy that Din and Grogu would miss it, especially as Nevarro residents, and it would give both these characters and the audience a good opportunity to openly mourn and pay tribute to both Greef Karga and Carl Weathers. Seeing as characters like Din Djarin rarely get the chance to grieve on the screen, this would be an especially moving display of tribute.

Whatever wayStar Warschooses to go with this tribute, there’s no doubt they will verify that both Carl Weathers and Greef Karga are honored in this movie. Weathers and hisThe Mandalorianrole have long since been staples of this highly successful story, and it would be impossible to imagine a scenario where he’s not somehow a part of its leap to the big screen. The appearance of Anzellans only seems to confirm thatThe Mandalorian & Groguwill truly return to Nevarro and honor Greef Karga, just as they should.
