In return, Negan tells the man “I guess you’re in for a bit of a shock” as the stranger attempts to grab his bat, only for him to literally be shocked by the weapon, suggesting it has received some kind of electrical upgrade.
This seems fitting with season 2’s theme of power, as the villains managing to restore power on the island would allow for unique upgrades such as an electrified bat. After killing one final walker with Lucille, a piece broke off, causing Negan to have an emotional moment of realization as he dropped to his knees.
