The Walking Dead: Dead Cityis set to return in 2025 with its second season, and its latest trailer just confirmed Negan’s signature weapon got a surprising new update.Ever since he was first introduced to the show, Negan has been associated with his baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire, which he used to cause two ofThe Walking Dead’s most haunting deaths. Named after Negan’s deceased wife, Lucille became an iconic part of the franchise, as the villain used the bat to kill countless enemies throughout the series before retiring the weapon in an attempt to change his ways.

While Negan has been restricted mainly to knives and guns in recent years, he was once again seen wielding a baseball bat in the trailer forDead Cityseason 2. WithThe Walking Deadalso teasing Negan’s evil side returningin the project, his Lucille replacement now feels even more important, as the newest iteration of the weapon just received a massive upgrade. Therefore, regardless of whether Negan does return to his former ways or is simply playing the Dama and the Croat, season 2’s trailer officially confirmed that the former antagonist will be more dangerous than ever.

Negan’s Iconic Weapon Looks More Deadly Than Ever

For better or worse,The Walking Dead: Dead Cityseason 2’s trailer seemed to reveal a lot about the upcoming season, including Negan’s weapon update. With Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character leading a meeting between numerous factions based in New York, he is seemingly confronted by a man who appears to challenge Negan’s authority. In return, Negan tells the man “I guess you’re in for a bit of a shock” as the stranger attempts to grab his bat, only for him to literally be shocked by the weapon, suggesting it has received some kind of electrical upgrade.

This seems fitting with season 2’s theme of power, as the villains managing to restore power on the island would allow for unique upgrades such as an electrified bat. AlthoughNegan only joined the Dama and the Croat to help free HershelinDead Cityseason 1’s ending, the villains did promise him big things, and this new update could be one of them. He was already brutal with his original bat, but after just a glimpse of what he can do with the electrified version, I have no doubt he will be a true menace with his latest weapon.

What Happened To The Original Lucille In The Walking Dead?

Negan Burns His Original Baseball Bat In An Attempt To Move On From His Past

Despite how comfortable Negan looks with his new baseball bat, it isn’t his original since he burned Lucille in season 10’s finale. Having caused so much damage, Negan took some time to reflect on his past and tried to change his behavior after being given a second chance. As a result, he attempted to move on from his Savior days, which included letting go of the bat that he used to commemorate his wife. After killing one final walker with Lucille, a piece broke off, causing Negan to have an emotional moment of realization as he dropped to his knees.

By The End Of Dead City Season 2, The Walking Dead’s Longest-Running Feud Better Be Over

An ongoing Walking Dead feud has been a major storyline since 2016, but Dead City season 2 finally has the chance to end the rivalry for good.

“Here’s Negan” then cuts to the character apologizing to his wife for his previous mistakes, including naming his weapon after her, before wrapping Lucille with a cloth and throwing it in a fire. It was a moment to say goodbye to his wife while getting some closure, but it was also a massive step in moving on and putting his villainous ways behind him. Whether he can stay on the right path inThe Walking Dead: Dead Cityseason 2 is yet to be seen, but it’s clear his new weapon won’t hold the same emotional baggage as Lucille.

Destroying the bat was undeniably a big part of Negan’s character arc, and no matter how much his former followers or new admirers try to bring his Savior persona back, these new weapons will never be as important as the original.
