Patrick Gibson may be taking over as Dexter Morgan inDexter: Original Sin, but Michael C. Hall’s thoughts on passing the torch have been revealed by the prequel’s cast. Set to arrive on Paramount+ with Showtime on December 13, the latest spinoff will focus on a young Dexter who first joins the Miami Metro as a forensic intern. TheDexter Original Sincastalso includes younger versions of other familiar characters, such as Dexter’s foster father Harry (Christian Slater), and sister Deborah (Molly Brown), while Hall will return as the show’s narrator and Dexter’s inner voice.

During Paramount’s panel at this year’s CCXP in Brazil, whereScreenRantwas in attendance, both Gibson and Slater spoke about Hall’s involvement in the show and his thoughts on the latest version of the character. While Slater revealed that Hall was present via video link for the show’s first read through, Gibson also explained thatHall was pleased with what he saw, which came as an enormous relief. Check out Gibson’s comments below:

He passed the baton to me… he said that he was liking everything he saw when we did the table read and that was a big relief.

What Michael C. Hall’s Blessing Means For Dexter: Original Sin

Audiences Will Be Closely Judging Gibson’s Time In The Role

Audiences are no strangers to seeing other actors play a younger Dexter Morgan, withthe originalDextercasting four different actors throughout the show’s run to portray the character at various ages. However, as the original show’s flashback scenes entered his young adult years, Hall would often be the one to tackle the scenes, albeit with a wig to indicate the change in years. What makes Gibson’s casting so different from these other actors, is that his version of the character will be at astage in his life where audiences have already seen Hall play the role.

The actors who have also played young Dexter Morgan include: Dominic Jane, Maxwell Huckabee, Nicholas Vigneau, and Devon Graye.

As such, Hall’s approval of Gibson’s take on the character is all the more vital to the show’s success, given that audiences will have a direct comparison point against which to measure his performance. While casting a 53-year-old Hall to playa 20-year-old Dexterwould now stretch all credulity, fans of the original are already somewhat familiar with Hall playing the character during that point in his life, andpressure on Gibson to live up to his predecessor’s performance is far greaterthan that of the other child actors who also assumed the role.

Our Take On Michael C. Hall Passing The Torch

Gibson Will Soon Be Handing It Right Back Again

While Hall may indeed be briefly passing the role of the titular killer on forDexter: Original Sin, for countless viewers he will always remain the character’s most iconic and instantly recognizable face. Thankfully, however, this newprequel series does not mean the end of Hall’s time in the role, and while Gibson may be the one to currently hold the baton, he will also be handing it straight back once done.

We Already Know 6 Kills That Will Be In Dexter Morgan’s Prequel Show

Dexter: Original Sin will show Dexter’s earliest kills, but the franchise has already revealed six of his earliest victims and how he killed them.

Not only is Hall still lending his voice toDexter: Original Sinas the show’s narrator, butthe unexpected sequel seriesDexter: Resurrectionis expected to see him return to the role in person. Exactly how this next chapter will handle the character’s death in 2021’sDexter: New Bloodremains to be seen, but it is possible that Gibson’s time as Dexter could potentially provide audiences with the story catalyst necessary to see Hall reclaim his title when it comes time for the forthcoming sequel series.
