Marvel’s currentUltimate Universeis officially celebrating one year of comics by corrupting an iconic piece of SHIELD lore. The Helicarrier, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965, served as the headquarters for SHIELD and a transportation vessel for the government agency and accompanying superheroes. In Marvel’s quickly developing new universe, the Helicarrier has a different name and a mission that’s truly frightening for the people of Earth-6160.
Ultimate Universe: One Year In#1 – written by Deniz Camp, with art by Jonas Scharf – gives theUltimate Universe’s growing lineup of heroesa major threat to contend with. The one-shot, which will also feature a prelude to writer Chris Condon and artist Alessandro Cappuccio’sUltimate Wolverine,will explore Nick Fury’s role among the universe’s villains.
In the preview, Nick Fury and the agents of HAND use the Helicarrier’s Ultimate equivalent to murder an innocent civilian, whom they’ve flagrantly labeled a terrorist. With villains ruling this alternate world, Fury notes there won’t be any repercussions for the cruel scene.

Created in 2000, the Ultimate Marvel imprint redesigned the entire Marvel Comics universe with a new set of origin stories and relationships. The reboot reinterpreted Marvel continuity from scratch in an attempt to simplify and update the company’s 60-year history for modern audiences. With famous comic book writers such as Brian Michael Bendis, Warren Ellis, and Mark Millar at the helm, the Ultimate universe (named Earth-1610 within the Marvel multiverse) lasted 15 years and provided plenty of inspiration for the MCU.
