Theultra-powerful superhuman Hyperion, called Mark Milton in his civilian life, is a being whose physiology and abilities are often compared to those of an Eternal, making him either an epic threat or an incomparable ally.
Avengers#17, from Jed MacKay and Valerio Schiti, sees Hyperion - from theHeroes Rebornevent - convinced that he must kill himself and all of Earth to prove which is a “lie,” prompting the Avengers to immediately spring into action. Withthe addition of Stormjoining the battle,Hyperion versus the Avengers is sure to be explosive, but the conclusion to their fight could be shocking.
Hyperion Could Be The Next Person To Join The Avengers
The Avengers Are Known For Recruiting Former Villains
The Hyperion who is threatening to destroy Earthis actually a simulacrum created by the demon Mephistoin a plot to take over the world, imbued with the memories of Mark Milton fromHeroes Reborn. As a being created by Mephisto, Hyperion feels as though life is fake and hollow, and decides to destroy himself and Earth to “solve” his dilemma. However, it appears that Hyperion is not truly avillain, a more complex character who has been lied to and manipulated, especially since he was last seen in the clutches of the Red Widow.
The Avengers' Next Threat Is So Big They’re Recruiting Their Greatest Villains
The Avengers are famous for recruiting villains and helping them in their redemption arcs, most notably the iconic Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, as well as the beloved Hawkeye, Black Widow, Namor, Vision, Swordsmaster, and others. Some of the most beloved Avengers began their careers as villains, and Hyperion could be going down a similar path of redemption and growth. It would be tragic if Storm and the Avengers were forced to kill Hyperion- a task that would also be near impossible - instead of stopping attack and intervening on his mental breakdown.
Thor Was Best Friends With A Hyperion Variant
The God of Thunder may have a soft spot for Milton
One of the most famous - and certainly the most beloved - Hyperion variants from across the Multiverse is Marcus Milton of Earth-13034. Hailing from a universe destroyed by the Beyonders' incursions, this Hyperion was a full-fledged hero when he arrived on Earth-616. He would go on to become a member of the Avengers, help lead the Multiversal Avengers, and, post-Secret Warsstarted his own Squadron Supreme on Earth. This Hyperion also became best friends with Thor, and hasn’t been seen sinceSecret Empire. It would be fascinating if Thor was able to use his relationship with this Hyperion to connect with the variant who is attacking Earth, potentially convincing him to stop his assault and instead join the Avengers.
With Storm joiningThe Avengers, and the solicit forAvengers#18 revealing a hero will leave the team, now is the perfect time for another mixup. It would be epic if the Avengers were not only able to stop Hyperion from destroying Earth, but also save him from himself, giving him a second chance as part of their iconic team.
