Black Venom: Venomous#1 – written by Erica Schultz, with art by Luciano Vecchio –makes this major change to Marvel canon, when Black Widow infiltrates Alchemax to steala chemical capable of forcing a symbiote to leave its host, causing intense pain to the symbiote in the process.
Sliver,Black Widow’s symbiote, admits that the chemical hurts the symbiote and can easily even kill them. The fear of this new weakness is so great that Sliver even abandons Black Widow in the middle of their mission just to avoid the possibility of this new chemical being used on them.

Back when symbiotes were a rare occasion, the general population of Earth didn’t really need to worry about them too much. The only major symbiotes on Earth were Venom and Carnage, and places like Ravencroft used specialized tools to contain them. After the events ofKing in Black,the presence of symbiotes became far more common on Earth, with some symbiotes trying to simply blend into human society. This forced the US Government to come up withways to defeat the symbiotes if they ever became a threat.
While flame and sonic weapons were the standard, these work against most symbiotes,it doesn’t work on all of them. Carnage has famously outgrown both of these weaknesses. Because of this, people need new ways to take symbiotes down, and it seems Alchemax has stepped up to provide the answer. Readers were able to see a taste of this earlier inVenom#27. In this issue, a group of soldiers uses a chemical known as K34, which is so painful that Toxic explains it feels like being burned from the inside out.
It is unclear if what Black Widow retrieves from Alchemax is the same as K34, but Black Widow suspects its similar, and the vial is labeled KX.

Venom is a symbiotic alien entity bonded with various human hosts, notably Eddie Brock and later Flash Thompson. It grants superhuman strength, agility, and a shape-shifting black costume. Initially a Spider-Man villain due to its origins, Venom evolved into an antihero, battling both villains and his own dark impulses.
