Isn’t a crossover that brings thePower RangersandVoltronseries together seriously overdue? Both franchises have dominated the action-adventure genre and both have had comic series that have been well-loved among fans. So why hasn’t anyone done the obvious and united the two?
One doesn’t need to bea bigPower Rangersfanto know that the franchise has been absolutely crushing it with its numerous series under BOOM! Studios. Since 2015, fans have gotten to see the Rangers take on some of the biggest, most universe-shattering dangers, and that’s not even getting into the crossovers. And yet, one of the most obvious team-ups, a crossover withVoltron, has somehow been overlooked this whole time.

The Power Rangers' Have Already Crossed Over with Others
From Godzilla to the TMNT, There’s No Excuse for Not Doing Voltron
In 2015, BOOM! Studios teamed up with Saban Brands to create anewMighty Morphin Power Rangersseriesthat was an instant hit among fans, both old and new. It wasn’t long before the success led to BOOM! expanding the franchise with spin-offs and limited series tie-ins. But BOOM! really pushed the Rangers in 2017 by teaming up with DC Comicsfor the crossover seriesJustice League/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which saw the teenagers with attitude brought to the DC Universeto take on their old nemesis Zedd and Superman’s classic foe Brainiac.
But that was just the beginning for BOOM! Studios’ adventures with other franchises. Two years afterJustice League/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, BOOM! Studios worked with IDW Publishing and Nickelodeon forMighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This crossover saw the two teams work together and even gave the Turtles the opportunity to use the Rangers’ Morphers. And if that wasn’t awesome enough, the Rangers got a taste of the Mutagen Ooze in the beloved sequel, turning the Power Rangers into anthropomorphic mutants to fight their respective enemies.

BOOM! Studios’ kept up the teamwork to bring fans even bigger and better crossovers. In 2022, the publisher worked with Toho to produceGodzilla vs. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, pitting the King of the Monsters against the iconic team. And yes, in order to fight the legendary titan, the Green Ranger calls upon the Dragonzord in a battle that has to be seen to be believed. The Rangers would later fight other Toho monsters in the sequel crossover. And while not a full-length series, the Power Rangers fought alongside Usagi Yojimo in a one-shot comic in 2024.
BOOM! Studios is Still Committed to Crossovers, So Please, Let’s See Voltron!
VR Troopers is Next, What About Votron After?
The newest Power Rangers series, Power Rangers Prime, made waves online by reintroducing Saban Entertainment’s old hero team, VR Troopers, to its continuity. While it makes a lot of sense to expand on the Power Rangers world with a franchise so closely related to it, one must wonder what crossover BOOM! Studios are willing to take a chance on next? There are a lot of great candidates, but one of the most obvious choices that wouldbe incredibly rewarding for fans would be bringing the Power Rangers and Voltron together.
LikePower Rangers,Voltronis about a group of young people charged with protecting the universe from evil with giant mechs in the shape of animals (though their crafts all resemble lions). Andjust like how the Rangers’ Zords can unite to form the Megazord, the pilots’ mechs come together to create the titular weapon, Voltron. Given how both franchises are action-adventure stories that are often set in space and deal with giant mechs, it’s a no-brainer that these two properties would work together perfectly in a crossover.

It’d be pretty easy to come up with a reason to bring the Rangers and Team Voltron together, either by dimensional shenanigans or just having them occupy the same universe in a crossover. And come on, who doesn’t want to see the Megazord and Voltron fighting monsters side-by-side. There could even be a moment where the two teams have to fuse their bots together, creating something more powerful than either franchise has ever seen. Maybe it’s a pipe dream, but there’s a lot of potential to aVoltron/Power Rangerscrossover.

Comics Can Do Crossovers Fans Won’t See Anywhere
The great thing about the comic medium is that it’s a lot easier to do crossovers with other properties than it is in a live-action medium. No matter how good an idea it sounds, there’s almost certainly never going to be a live-action Power Rangers and Voltron crossover. But the comics can if the license holders agree and, given how well these two properties seem suited to each other, there absolutely needs to be a crossover betweenPower RangersandVoltron.
